DH is trying to convince me we should get this GMC Acadia from his work - he works at a dealership and we would get a pretty damn good deal. However, the payment is more than our current car and the car doesn't have all I want so I am saying no...but he keeps going on about how a bigger car will be so much easier with a baby......like the Camry we have is so small. He is driving me nuts today!
So, did you get a bigger car? Loving it, hating it? Does DH have a point on needing something larger?
Re: Anyone get a bigger car just because of the baby?
I have a 2 door Honda Civic and will use that for the baby...not sure how it will work out with a car seat in the back but the doors are large and the front seat moves all the way up so I'm sure it'll do.
We can not afford a new car/higher payment/down payment right now so I'll make it work!

I love the Murano's too - if only he worked at a Nissan dealership and we could get this smokin deal I would sign on the dotted line right away!

I have a Honda Civic sedan that we're keeping but FI is getting rid of his Honda Civic coupe. He is currently looking at VW Passats which are larger than what we both have. We decided to trade his in because it isn't a suitable size and he wanted a more family style car. I am pretty excited about it and so is he. We figured it would be better for longer-ish trips (to visit his parents) so we could fit everything. But we're also staying within our budget.
I would look around more until you find something you both can agree on and be excited about. I think the extra room will be extremely helpful considering the need to pack more things now with the LO on the way.
i had a 95 mustang so yeah we got a new car, I miss it tho.
now that we are expecting another i am looking into an even bigger car... this one just doesn't seem to fit the bill. once the trunk is full of stroller there is no room for groceries and stuff. so i am looking for a larger car to accommodate.
as long as we can keep the payment at 200 we can swing it.
Yes i will be upgrading my car. i have a 2-door now and will be getting a 4 door most likely Honda or Toyota
I have a 2 door Civic too, but we have no plans on buying anything bigger. I would love to upgrade to a CR-V, but we are planning on buying a house in May so I'd rather not spend money on another car.
I drove a 2r, 3 seater dodge p/u truck. After I got pregnant the first time we talked about having to sell it. Unfortunately I lost that baby. But since we knew we were going to try again we decided to upgrade before I got pregnant with this baby.
A 2dr truck just wasn't going to work with a baby!
I have Mazda 3 and DH got a Mazda CX7. His car was also a 2 dr but had a back seat. His car was filthy and had over 130K miles on it so it was time for him to get a new car anyway. Baby or not. But he opted for a little bigger car/crossover since my family lives out of state and we knew we would need a bigger car for traveling to visit them

I did...kind of...I bought my MazdaSpeed3 a year and a half ago. My old car was a Saturn Ion and although it had 4 doors the back doors were half doors and it would have been a bit difficult to get a baby in and out....DH hated my car and I was ready for a new one so we went with a bigger car with 4 full size doors to accommodate for our future family.
DH's Pontiac Grand Am died at the end of Dec. so we had to get a new car. He wanted another Pontiac, but I convinced him to go with a Jetta because it will be better for us as a family (I can drive the Jetta, but can't a Pontiac). Now he loves the Jetta, so it certainly worked out for the best. It's technically the same size (maybe a bit smaller in total) but the inside space is much larger.??

This is what I keep saying...I am waiting on what his explanation is of having a bigger car would be to our benefit...these men I tell you - they drive me nuts!
Growing Up Olson
Last year we were going to downsize from our Chevy Equinox, which I LOVE, to the Honda Civic which I also love. We also have DH's little '94 Chevy p/u which is a blessing. I am happy that we did not downsize b/c we get decent gas mileage and I would rather have too much room than too little.
Once Dh's p/u dies I think we will buy a Civic, much to the chigrin of MIL who is hardcore buy american, which I am to a certain extent.
I think it really depends on what will suit your situation.
we were planning on it but bow we have no choice but to get a new car. i was in a car accident last month and my car was a total loss.
i had an 06 toyota carolla. so now im trying to figure out what SUV i want
We currently have a camry and an accord. My lease is up on my accord next month and we plan to get a Honda Pilot (bigger). We have been wanting to get an SUV anyway since I barely drive at all and when we do we always need more room. No one in our family or extended family has an suv and we really need one because we are always feel like we are inconveiencing other's when ask for help.
So yes, baby = bigger car. But we wouldve done it no matter what.
A month after my husband and I got married we looked into buying a new car. We are both planners, so we figured we were going to have kids in the future we wanted an SUV... we ended up buying the 2008 Scion XB, it's bigger than the years before... it's great! Now that we are having a baby it's fantastic. I'm glad it worked out the way it did. So technically we did buy a bigger car for baby. I hope it helps!
We both got new cars this summer, and kept in mind we would be trying for a baby in the fall. He got the gmc canyon with a full back seat, and i got a cadillac SRX. I should say we also have a 100lbs plus puppy who is still growing and we need room for him plus stroller in the very back!
AS for the Acadia, a friend of mine has one and there is ZERO room for trunk space. It's literally like a foot deep, so your camry actually has way more trunk space
But I must say it is a very beautiful car
'just because of the baby' seems like a pretty good reason for getting a new car.
i have a mini cooper convertible, 2 door. i love it, but not a family friendly car. we'll be getting a new one in the next couple months
