We didn't (DG drive a pick-up, quad-cab and I drive an SUV). But, my parents are!
They like to have DDs visit and they drive a Sonata.
The problem isn't the car, it's my dad....he's 6ft tall and, trying to have a rear-facing seat behind his seat isn't happening. He can't push the seat back far enough for his legs to be on the pedals comfortably. Right now, it's fine because they have the rear-facing car seat on my mom's side and the forward-facing on my dad's side - the driver's side. It's easy for my mom to squeeze in there...she's barely 5ft!
But, when #3 arrives, there will be a rear-facing seat in the middle or on the driver's side (or both...not sure how it'll be set up) and it just won't work in their car since my dad won't be able to get the seat back enough.
The car is fine...but, you have to take the height/leg-room needs of the people IN the car into account!
Your camry is plenty big. I drive a passat and their about the same size. I can fit my stroller in the trunk and still have room for groceries and a bunch of other stuff. If the GMC doesn't have what you want and it's more money and what you have is good I say tell DH to buy it for himself if he's so dead set on bringing the thing home, but it's not for you.
I have a Honda Civic sedan that I will use, but DH has to get a new car soon. He wants a SmartCar which I told him no way. Then he wants a Mini Cooper. No way. Went to the auto show a few weeks ago and turned down every car that had a trunk that was too small to put a stroller in. DH thinks we'd be using my car 100% of the time for the baby and I'm like, well, what happens if there's an emergency and you have to get the baby somewhere fast and my car is at work. Now, he's considering a Prius or a Corolla. Fine.

We both drive pickups, and mine is nicer (we are paying on mine still, his is paid off). It would be awesome if we could buy an SUV (I want a Ford Expedition) for me and he would drive my pickup, but we can't afford two payments with me staying at home. SO, that said, what we are going to do is buy a flat cover (not a shell) for my pickup for all our stuff so that we can still put a dog (maybe two) and a baby in the back seat of my pickup (it's 4 door and roomy enough) and we are going to drive it until it's paid off, then switch and get the SUV. We were mostly worried about what to do with the dogs (We have one now but we are getting a puppy this summer. I know, I know, right before we have a baby, but we'll be fine) and a car seat, but we measured and figured if the dogs didn't stay put (I know the dog we have now will, but the puppy is obviously going to be different) we could fit a kennel in for the time being. The reason I was so worried about the dogs is because Wyatt goes EVERYWHERE with us. We have very dog friendly families and we really don't have anyone to watch him, especially since we go somewhere almost every weekend.
I have a Honda Accord and DH has a Jeep Cherokee. We are not getting a new car. I like how I can put the car seat in the middle of my Honda whereas with DH's SUV I will have to put it on either side next to a door because of the way the seats split and I just don't feel safe doing that. What if I get T-boned.
Re: Anyone get a bigger car just because of the baby?

Sorry this was so long, I am a rambler!
