I walked a lot at the end of my pregnancy and it didn't do anything but keep my mind off the fact that I was still pregnant. My OB told me that a lot of those old wives tales aren't true and that you go in to labor when you go in to labor. Hang in there! The bitter end is the hardest part!!

It didn't work for me. ?My water broke in the early AM. ?My doctor told me to walk during the day to make my labor progress... once we started walking, my contractions slowed down... then I sat my happy @ss down and they became more frequent and stronger... then we walked again and then they stopped completely.
i walked almost 3 miles every day for 2 weeks and NOTHING, but once i was in labor and dilating walking helped me go from 8cm (i had been at 8 for about an hour) to crowning in about 2 minutes. no joke. my OB had just said that it would be at least another 2-3 hours. guess i showed her

I walked 3-4 miles a day from 37 weeks on and it definitely didn't do anything for me (I finally went into labor at 41 week 1 day and she was born 41 weeks 3 days). But like pp said once I went into labor walking really helped keep my contractions close together and it felt much better than sitting in a bed.
Once I started mild contractions, I walked alot! I also bounced on the labor ball and had sex. The pain wasnt bad enough for me to go to the hospital until I was 8 cm.
Hard to tell! I walked (in the snow), had sex, bounced on my ball, and ate spicy food - I went into labor at about 39 1/2 weeks. Unfortunately he was breech! He was, however, fully descended, which is not as common in breech babies, and that may have been in part due to all the walking and bouncing.
I was having contractions that were very irregular, so DH and I went for a walk. That was about 4pm the saturday before DS was born (he came at 9am on Sunday). I don't know if it helped, but I did have DS 17 hours later. My family and DH swear it's because of the excitement of the OU-Texas football game (I'm an OU fan) that pushed me into labor.
On the Saturday I went into labor, I was walking all over the mall with DD and DH. Then we went home and had a little sexy time...
5hrs later I was in L&D with fairly regular contractions. The L&D nurses actually had me walk the hospital to get me to dialate a bit more and get the contrax to come on more regularly. It worked.
I don't think the walking did it though, I think it was my time and the walking and sex just kicked off the party.
