Parenting after a Loss

She turned a shade of blue....

I think my heart skipped a beat. DD is in her high chair playing while I am cleaning the kitchen. I can see she's trying to poop so I giggle and continue.

Then I look over at her and she has spit up pouring slowly out of her nose, a little out of her mouth. It's kinda thicker like snot. I begin to walk over to clean it and she then gets this look of sheer panic on her face because I realize she cant breathe. I rush over, she turns a light shade of blue. She has this look on her face like shes saying "help me." I start to grab her out of the chair, she takes a breath and lets out the most terrifying sounding cry.

She calmed down quickly once i picked her up. I think it took me longer to calm my nerves then it did for her. She is currently in her swing, babbling and I can't get that panic look on her face out of my head.

Have I ever mentioned I farking HATE reflux???? The fact that infants have to go through this makes me angry and feeling helpless.

  • How horrible for you.  I hope that this reflux crap is done soon.
  • So scary! I'd be a wreck! Glad she's ok!
  • I'm so sorry you are going through this.  I hate reflux, too!  Maybe the Reglan needs to be upped.  Yianni still refluxes out of his nose with Reglan, but more so when the Reglan needs to be upped.  I hate when it scares the crap out of you and all the doc says is, "Yes, that is a reflux episode."  No sh!t.  What are we doing about it????

Does she reflux like that in her sleep?  If so, do you have an Angel Care monitor?  Yianni refluxes like that at night and his idiot GI doc took away the apnea monitor yesterday because of his size despite the fact that he has stopped breathing 21 times in the past three months.  We're going for a second opinion.

    I hope Hailey feels better.

She is still on the apnea monitor. Thankfully, these types of episodes are few and far between. I havent had one like this since she came home from the NICU. When she sleeps, she hardly makes a peep. I have a feeling that the monitor is going away in 2 weeks!

  • Oh, God--I know how scary that is.  I also had a tough time forgetting what Mario looked like (it was so shocking it stuck in my head) when he had his reflux/upper respiratory event in Jan.  I am so sorry you both went through that.  Reflux bites for so many reasons--it is scary as hell, and it can complicate other things that are minor (like Mario's resp. infection). It is great you responded so quickly--that blue shade is such a scary thing.

I promise it will get better.  Mario's events are so few and far between now that we can actually relax.  I hope you are both recovering--I know it was way harder on me than on Mario! I'm betting it is the same for you.

Much love, I am so glad she is ok, Jill

  • Holy living CRAP. I got scared just reading this! You poor thing..and your poor sweet girl! I'm so glad she was ok...
