3rd Trimester

when would you/will you/did you stop working?

As I posted yesterday, went to my 38 week appointment and have had no progress.  I originally told my boss that this coming Friday was my last day. Now, I'm thinking that I might work the next week too rather than sit around at home - I don't really have anything else to do for baby. Also, I'm a teacher, but my sub is working with me right now (so I can leave any time) and I'm doing a simulation with my classes that allows me to sit on my ass all day and play games...so not too strenuous.

What do you think? Stick with the original plan or work until labor starts/I'm induced?

"Hello, babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. At the outside, babies, you've got about a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies. God damn it, you've got to be kind." - Kurt Vonnegut

Re: when would you/will you/did you stop working?

  • if you feel fine and won't get paid if you take off (or it will eat into your maternity leave) i'd work up until you deliver if you can.

i can go out early with STD so it's fully paid. My Ob is taking me out between 24-28w b/c it's twins.  With my singleton pg I was going to go out at 36w, but i ended up on bed rest at 30w.

  • Work as long as you can. It will pass the time quicker then just sitting at home waiting for some kind of progress. I am planning on working up until I cannot work anymore.. basically whenever this baby decides its ready to come out! Unless of course the Dr. says otherwise.

  • I also teach and finished at 39 weeks (when the semester ended).  I'm still working at my part-time job one day a week until I have the baby.  If you'll be mostly sitting, it might be worth it to stay at work...being home has been very boring!

  • If you're feeling okay, I would work until labor starts or until you start feeling uncomfortable.
  • You will probably prefer to have the time off when the baby is here - so as long as you are feeling fine, I would keep working!

  • I am working until the end of my 37th week, then I'm out.  Regardless of how much progress I've made.  I want to be able to just relax and get my house/life in order before the baby comes.  The way I see it is, I'm taking the full 12 weeks, and luckily because of my due date and Spring Break, that 12 weeks will take me into summer.

If I were you, I'd stick with your original plan and just enjoy a little last me time.  Go get a mani/pedi, massage, haircut, etc...whatever you want to relax, or make some meals ahead of time that you can freeze.

  • My Dr. suggested that I stop working soon, but I'm really hesitant.  I sit in an office all day so it's not physically strenuous by any means.  Staying busy is the only things that is keeping me sane.  The baby is fine I'm just uncomfortable so I'd just assume be uncomfortable at work and get paid for it then to be uncomfortable at home unpaid.

  • I planned to go until 38.4 weeks, but the dr put me on bed rest a week early.  Do what feels most comfortable for you - I couldn't have made it any longer in kindergarten.

I will say that being prepared for my sub early was a blessing.  You never know whaen your last day will be, so plan accordingly!

  • I'm stopping all traveling into work at 35weeks. The hospital I'm delivering at is about an hour north of where I live and the office I work in is 30min south. I will still have plenty of work to keep me busy at home.
  • I would have tried to work as long as possible, right up until labor (if possible). It didn't work out for me though.
  • I worked right until the end. I worked the Friday and gave birth that Monday.  If I was still working, that's what I would do again. The last few weeks DRAG, and so going to work gave me something to do and focus on other than the fact that I wasn't in labor.
  • I'm working until 3 days before his EDD. If he's over due then I'll work part time until he finally makes his appearance!
  • I have to work up until delivery unless there is a medical reason I am unable to work
  • Yesterday was my last day. I'm looking forward to having next week off to just relax.

  • I'm a teacher too- 9th grade. I pretty much sit all day- but I have a tremendous walk into/out of /around the building and I am suffering from SEVERE pubis symphysis disorder- which makes things true agony when I walk. Bones clicking and popping is as painful as it sounds.

I go out Feb 27th, which will be 38 weeks. I STILL don't have a sub, so I am in panic mode that things will not be ready for me to go out. School is also about 40 minutes from the hospital and an hour from my husband. If could stay at school longer, I would- but not with all of this!!

  • I am a first grade teacher and I plan to work until my due date or until labor starts, whichever comes first.  If I go past my due date, I am hoping to work half days up to a week and then I should be induced if he is still hanging out...  It sounds like you have it made with your sub already there, I would hang out unless you feel bad or feel like you need to do some work at home to get ready......
  • I teach first grade and am on my feet all day long, so it's been pretty tough lately.  My last day will be next Friday, the 13th, and I'm being induced on the 18th.  The 16th is a holiday anyway, so I'm only taking one early day.  I'm looking forward to a few days of rest and being able to get my house in order.  I say just do what you feel like you can and no more!
  • Well, my original plan was to work up until I go into labor.  My due date is April 8 and it was easier for my boss to not schedule me in April at all rather than me possibly not makeit that far and then she'd have to scramble to find coverage.  It doesn't affect my leave so I'm actually looking forward to the week off before I'm due.
  • I am a teacher, too and I have worked as long as possible with all of them. Baby #3 was born in August and I was WISHING I were at work b/c time passed so slow in comparison. Just make sure you don't overdo it!!!
  • My last day at work is this upcoming Friday (2/13).  So far I have not made any progression, which has made me think about working up until the very end.  But with my job, I would rather stop working as of Friday because I could end up starting a project and go into labor leaving my back up to finish it.  Plus I still have some things left to do around the house.  I need the time to finish getting ready.
