ditto. i got mine before xmas because i was making fleece scarves and blankets and i just about died when i first used it and it just sliced straight through against the ruler. love.
i have heard this! and when i was buying mine i was pretty sure i'd be getting a sewing machine for christmas and have wanted to learn to quilt so figured it'd be a good early purchase for me!!
I teach an intro to quilting class - I always teach that the essential items are:
-sewing machine (or not if you're doing hand quilting, but I teach only with machines)
- rotary mat
- good acrylic ruler
- rotary cutter.
Seriously the best invention ever (my company wrote their early books before rotary cutters were invented for quilting - that one invention has had a HUGE impact on the quilting industry).
My only warning. NEVER EVER EVER leave it open. It WILL slice off a finger - it's happened, I've seen it. It will also slice off a toe if you are in bare feet and it drops on you. Make it a habit to cut and then close your blade immediately.
DS #3 diagnosed at birth with panhypopituitarism - lack of pituitary function. He is treated with thyroxine, hydrocortisone, growth hormone and testosterone.

word. and I speak from experience.
I have an olfa that has a squeeze trigger on it. LOVE IT!!! I never have to worry about remembering to close it after each cut, and if it falls, it's not taking a piece of me with it. LOL.
