If your toddler skips a nap do you put to bed early?

DD is in a weird funk of skipping nap some days.  She'll go to her room and read books or play quitely but she doesn't sleep.  Most days she'll sleep for 2-3 hours.  I don't think she's ready to give them up.  So on the days that she's no napping should I put her to bed earlier so she's getting the same amount of sleep or just let her go to bed at the same time.  She's not really cranky or anything.

  • I've found that putting DS to bed early makes him wake up earlier, so I try to keep him up until his normal time.

  • Same here--she's been napping only every 2-3 days the past week for some reason, and the other times she just plays and sings in there for an hour or two before I give up.  I just put her to bed at her normal time, which is 8-8:30pm, because she doesn't get super cranky until it's almost bedtime anyway, and I don't want her to wake up before dawn if I put her to bed at 6 or 7. =)
  • I wondered the same thing today. My ILs watched him and he did not nap. He had a busy day and is getting sick so I brought him up about 20 min. early. I wished I ahd brought him up sooner because he was screaming when I put him in his crib - reaching for me to the point I thought he might flip out of the crib. This lets me know he is in no way ready to give up naps. although he doesn't always fall asleep. AFter playing for an hour I sometimes go in and rub his back and he falls right alseep at nap time. I hate that he is so worked up at bedtime tonight. I think it would have been better if I brought him up sooner

    he is 2

  • YES, but usually only an hour earlier (7:00). He never wakes up earlier than usual because of this. He is a late sleeper.
