Do you take your DC outside to play if it's below freezing?

I live in upstate NY and we've been getting tons of snow. I haven't taken DS out to play in the snow yet b/c it's been so cold but I really want to this weekend b/c his sister will be with us (DH's daughter). Saturday it will be 25F and Sunday 34F. For different reasons Sat would be a better day. So, do you take your DC out if it's in the 20s or is that too cold? Should I just wait till Sun? Thanks for sharing your experiences!

  • Our daycare follows our State's recommendation which is 22F or above is okay for a young child (appropriately bundled) - So I follow that as well.

  • Well, I live in NH and haven't taken DS out in the snow yet either because it has been too cold.  I am planning on taking him out on Sunday because in our area it will be 37 degrees.  It will seem like heat wave!  HA HA!
  • I have taken DD out to play in the snow twice, and both days it was above freezing. Then again, I live in SE Pennsylvania, where the weather on days when it was below freezing was really not conducive to playing outside, anyway...
  • If I didn't go out when it was below freezing, we would not have been out of the house since sometime in Dec.  Its been a really cold winter here in MN.  My daycare follows the 20 degree rule but they also look at windchills and all of that.  I would go out either day as long as its not super windy and just watch everyone closely and don't stay out to long,

  • I also live in NY (western NY) and it has been so cold.  The wind chill is the main factor.  DD isn't walking yet either so that is another reason for not "playing" outdoors...though she loves the short walk from the sitters two houses down and cries everytime we walk inside.  I know that Sunday it is suppose to be close to 40 near where I live...so if you could wait until Sunday (if DH's daughter will still be there then) why not wait for a little warmer day.
