Working Moms

First week back to work

Good Morning

I am starting work on 12/1. I do have some frozen breast milk. WWYD? Do i send frozen breast milk the first day? Do I pump some on Sunday and send two fresh and two frozen bottles.

Also, my DS is 3 months and he typically eats anywhere from 2oz-4oz. How do I know how much to make the bottles for? Should I send a total of 8oz or 16oz??

Any other ideas or advice is greatly appreciated!

eek!

Re: First week back to work

  • I would send 4 bottles with 4 oz each for a total of 16 oz. I would pump today and tomorrow and try to send fresh milk. ?Sometimes DD finishes her entire bottle and sometimes she doesn't. ?

  • My advice is to send more, smaller bottles of fresh at first.  It's easier to give another 2 or 3 oz bottle than it is to save what they don't eat.   Also, thawed has to be used soon, but fresh stays good for a few days, so until you know for sure it will be used, I'd try to send fresh in the beginning.   After a couple days, you'll see what they need and you can adjust.

Right now, my DD consistently takes 3 bottles (one every 3 hours or so) so I send 4, just in case.  I kept upping the amount slightly until they told me she wasn't finishing them.   I end up using the 4th bottle the next day.

     Good luck going back!

  • Great question! I go back on 12/1 also. Ugh! lol

  • Also, you should check with your daycare. I start next week and went yesterday to finish paperwork. They said all bottles must be prepared before coming to the center and they won't store frozen bm as a back up.
  • I go back o 12/1 too.  I plan on taking a bunch of frozen breastmilk cause they told me that they would keep it on hand for DS.
  • Agree with PP on more bottles with smaller amounts in them.  Some places have to throw out any extra and can't re-refridgerate it for later.
