what do you do about screaming?

DS, who is 2.5, has taken to screaming at me. And I'm talking screaming screaming.  He super loud and super po'd and it's right in my face.

I've tried time outs, taking things away... Any ideas?

  • Oh my goodness. Blatant disrespect (post below) and screaming. You guys are starting to scare me! Is this what I reallly have to look forward too!?! God help me.
  • Loading the player...
  • I whisper to him and otherwise try to distract him.  Singing helps, for some reason.  He'll stop screaming to hear the song.  GL.

  • Hold my hands over my ears and sing, "LALALALALALALA!"

No, just kidding...see my response below! :o)

  • I walk away. I tell her she has a choice-continue screaming or join me in whatever activity we're doing. If she continues to scream, I tell her she's chosen to scream; I leave her and go into another room and carry on w/ my business. Usually stops in a few minutes.

  • I should say that he's not just screaming. He screaming at me b/c he's upset with me.  He also put me time out the other day.
  • No advice, but tons of sympathy.  These 2's are going to kill me.

  • Yeah lots of potential ideas:

you leave the room and let him know when he's done screaming you will return

You can help teach him words... the screaming is his inability to express himself with words.  "I know you're mad at mommy... and when you're mad you want to scream but it's better to tell me why you're mad."

Good luck.  3 is *WAY* worse than 2, sorry to scare you :P
