Getting LO on your back for carrier?
My approval came through for getting a baby carrier for medical purposes. (back pain) and I just got my Action Baby Carrier!!
First of all, I love it! I got the toddler, since DD is 14 months and 20 lbs. She's got lots of room to grow.
How the heck do you get a wiggle worm onto your back?!
I've looked at the videos, and they all have 2 and 3 year olds, that are experienced. I tried to get her up there with the scootch, the superman, and sitting in a chair, and the only one that I felt even remotely secure was the sitting. When I was bouncing around with her and making it fun, she turned all the way to the side to reach for something, and it's making me think I'm still doing something wrong. She looked like the kids in the pictures do, so I'm not sure.
Thoughts?
Re: AW: Got my new carrier!!!!
I'll try to explain how I get DS on my back. He's 20 months and we just started back carrying a couple months ago.
Standing in front of him with him facing me, I pick him up using my left hand under his right armpit and my right hand under his left armpit (my arms kind of crossed). Then, I swing him carefully up and around my back.
I lean forward so that he is laying on my back, and I let my hands slip down his arms so that I am holding his hands around my neck, his arms over my shoulders. I take both of his hands in front of my neck in one hand and put my other hand under his butt.
Then I lower him slowly until I can feel his butt against the carrier. I slip my fingers under the carrier body and "smooth" it up against his body. My hand is still supporting him, just on the outside of the carrier. As I am pulling the carrier up, I slip that hand through the strap. Then I let go of his hands and slip my other arm through the other strap. I check in the mirror that his shirt isn't pushed up uncomfortably, and we're on our way!
...I guess I use a mixture of leaning forward so that I'm holding him up with my back, and my hands for support. I hope this wasn't too confusing!
