Washing toys

I have a question for the moms that have already washed everything for baby. I started preparing my bags and I wanted to wash all his stuffed toys that he got at my shower but the labels all say "surface wash only", how did you ladies tackle this part? Curious to hear what everyone else did because it says to just wipe it down with a cloth I'm wondering if that's really all I should do and if I throw all the toys in the washer will they get destroyed?

Re: Washing toys

  • Thanks never heard that one but I'll definitely give it a try!

  • I wipe toys down with those Clorox wipes every once in a while. Not so much because of germs but because DS is always getting goldfish dust or jelly on the toys! He's a sticky mess!!!

When he was a baby I just gave them one good wiped own before playing with them from people touching them at the store.

  • I threw the stuffed toys in a pillow case and washed everything on the gentle cycle. It worked well and nothing got ruined.

This is basically what I do. I have horrible allergies so I throw them in a delicates bag and wash them in hot water on a Delicate cycle. Kills germs and gets rid of any other ickies.

We spray them with a mist of vinegar and let them air dry, vinegar kills a decent bit of germs but isnt harmful to baby or fabric.

I second this! Vinegar is the green way to go and IMO is better esp for baby toys than Clorox...it's natural, we are pretty anti chemical :]

I love this idea! Thanks I would have never thought of that!

  • I didn't wash any toys before DD was born.  However, over the past 2.5 years, I have had to wash her stuffed animals for various gross reasons.  I just throw them in the washer & dryer on a normal setting (usually with a regular load of laundry) and they come out just fine.

This. I think this is what I will do. We stopped using harsh chemicals once I found out I was preg and vinegar has been AWESOME!
