Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Short teeth

Dd is 16 months and she was a late teeter. She only has 3 teeth, two bottom and one top. The one beside the front tooth is just starting to come through.

Her bottom which came out just after her first birthday still seem to be pretty short as does her top. I've seen some other babies with teeth that are a lot longer and I'm wondering if this has happened to anybody else's LO? Is it just that the teeth grow a lot slower I guess?

Dd still has a paci at night and has always had a bit of a forceful tongue in that she likes to stick it out all the time since she was born so I wonder if maybe those two also have something todo with it due to the friction or pressure.

Re: Short teeth

  • I have been wondering the same thing. DD has cut 4 teeth on June 12th and none are fully grown in yet... or they are super short. She also has a paci at night.

I hope you get some more responses!

Not everybody has giant teeth. Look at the other members of your family. Do they have big horse teeth, little chiclet teeth or somewhere in between? Keep in mind these are baby teeth and not necessarily representative of the adult teeth.

Definitely true. But hers have poked through the gums and stick out a tiny bit. But definitely not like normal teeth. But hey I don't know? Maybe some just take time

I'm thinking that it's normal... my DD is also 16 months and has 12 teeth.  They were short like that for months, have probably grown in fully the past 2 months or so.  Although they are still pretty small.  No paci, bottle, etc here.
