High-Risk Pregnancy

New GD

Hi my name is Melissa, I'm new here. I'm 38, pregnant with my first. I'm 11 weeks and got to hear the heartbeat yesterday for the first time which was amazing...the bad news is I found out I have GD. The doctor said b/c it's so early I may have had diabetes before I became pregnant and it could cause birth defects in those first months. Everyone says not to worry, well, easier said than done. Just needed to get this out thanks for listening.

Re: New GD

  • Hi and welcome! I'm sorry to hear your doctor worried you with what was said. IMO it was a insensitive. It can be hard enough to keep from worrying as it is, but you can count on a lot of support and understanding from the ladies here. A lot of us have GD or preexisting diabetes so you're definitely not alone.

I'm sitting in the hospital waiting for my c/s right now. I've have GD both pregnancies and my DD, who is nearly 2, was born perfectly healthy with no complications. Keep focusing on the positives and take things a day at a time. Best wishes!

  • stay positive!  no need to worry just yet and catching it early is a good thing since you won't have uncontrolled GD for months.
