Bedtime bottle?

LO is 14 months and we switched him to a sippy cup at 12 months with the exception of his bedtime bottle.  It's mostly selfish as I love my nighttime cuddles with him.  Im starting to worry if I'm creating a bad habit though.  Anyone else continue bedtime bottle after sippy cup transition?  For how long?  Any issues getting him to sleep without it once you stopped?  Just looking for some advice :)

Re: Bedtime bottle?

  • We stopped the nighttime bottle about a month after the sippy cup transition.  The first night she flipped out because I tried to give her the sippy at the same time she'd normally get the bottle.  Now I give her the sippy around dinner time so she's mostly done by bedtime.  Before this, we had gotten to the point where she'd finish the bottle in the living room, holding it herself, and then we'd read books before putting her in the crib.  That way she equated the books with bedtime, not the bottle.  The second night we switched up when we gave her the sippy and it worked like a charm.  Two books and she went to bed with no problems.  GL!

  • We did it the same time we switched to a sippy. We cut out bottles pretty much cold turkey and decided to bite the bullet and cut out the nighttime milk as well. We thought it would be a lot worse than it was. He seemed confused the first night or two but after that it wasn't an issue.

My daughter is 15 months and I still give her a nighttime bottle and sometimes a morning bottle.  She's fully capable of using a sippy cup, but she won't drink milk out of it.  For now, I'm letting her have them.  Her pediatrician suggested continuing to work on transitioning completely, but he wasn't concerned about it.  I just make sure to brush her teeth afterwards.  It's been part of her nighttime routine for so long and she loves it.  My goal is to get her off bottles completely by 18 months, but I'm not stressing about it.
