What to do?

It's way to freakin hot to go outside.
So we're stuck inside and it's not very fun. DS just keeps climbing the furniture and getting into everything. He's antsy and I can't think of anything new to do inside the house.
Any suggestions?

Re: What to do?

  • Finger painting, children's museum, story time at the library, sensory bins, sprinkler fun, play doh, coloring, these are just some of the things that popped into my head.

Hope something helps - we are in Texas and it is brutal here!

  • Along the water theme, I'd always fill a big mixing bowl with water, put them in high chair with the water and a bunch of measuring cups and smaller bowls, and they have great fun.

  • Also when it is hot, we go to the library. Ours has a good kids section and is air conditioned.

Somebody posted on here about their MIL or mother annoying them by filling up the sink and letting their LO play in it.  I read it and thought "wonderful idea!"  I have been filling up the kitchen sink and letting DS play with utensils, tupperwares etc in it and he loves it.  I put a bath towel down on the floor and it does make a mess, but he has a great time.

The 5 and below store near our house sells baby pools for $2. I bought 2 of them and put them next to each other in the shade. One for me + one for DS.

That was me!  It bugs the crap out of me because if Allison wants to play in our sink and we say no she has an epic tantrum!

But it is good to kill time, she loves it.

I've been thinking about this this last few days. It's a popular pin on Pinterest, so you may have seen it. I read in a book that 18 months is a good age to get them small versions of brooms and mops and teach them how to help out.

Thanks for posting this.  Lu does some chores (cleaning up toys, she loves throwing diapers in the trash, etc), but I hadn't thought about mopping or dusting, or really thoughtof them as chores.  I think I will try adding some more in and doing it in a more meaningful way.

I got L a broom and he loves it. He helps me vacuum and swiffer while pushing around his little broom. He will also "clean" the floor with a towel while I dust.
