Potty training take 1

So, even though I am not 100% sure my daughter is ready to potty train--I definitely wanted work on it this summer while I am off. I figure I have the time and flexibility to focus on it. She has sat on the potty before but nothing ever happened.

We seriously spent about 70% of waking time on the potty today. My goal was her to go IN there at least once to get the praise and everything.  At first i set the timer, but then I realized that she wouldn't actually sit for very long. So then I brought out my phone and iPad--once she had access to that, she didn't get off the potty for over an hour!

On the plus side for her first day, she had 3 wet accidents, one poop, one near accident (we caught it in time) and two times actually going on the potty.

And I found candy to bribe her with--and she wanted the candy, but liked the idea of it--she didn't want to eat it though. So I had melted m&m's throughout the house.

  • A friend of mine used the ipad to train too. I'm considering it too. DD doesn't usually sit still long enough to go. She knows what it means and has gone before, but she's very inconsistent.

DD went to the potty this morning and she was excited about the MM, but she kept taking it out of her mouth. I need to find some other treat. Maybe gummy bears or something.

We are doing gummy bears now. Since she has a peanut allergy she can't have the normal m&m's, so the substitute that we were using REALLY melt in your hands if you hold onto it too long. She seriously had smurf hands all day yesterday.

What m&m substitute are you using? My DD also has a peanut allergy, so I'm always looking for good substitutes :)

  • They are called skippers. I ordered them online from a company called Vermont Nut Free--all of their candies are nut free, sesame free.
