I forgot to water the Christmas tree...(help)

DH warned me that if the water gets below the tree where it is cut it will form a seal and stop taking water.  Last night the routine was disrupted and I forgot to water it.  It had been watered in the am, but not pm.  DH said it was really low this morning and now it is not taking up any water.  He says I am ruining Christmas for the kids and this was the only nice thing going this year.

Anything I can do besides taking off all the ornaments and recutting it?

He wasn't here or he would have watered it.  I know he is perfect and I am not. I'm upset about his words, but no amount of cutting me slack is going to make the tree start taking up water.  Is there anything that will?  I'm assuming that water additives only help if they actually go up the tree trunk, which is not going on.

  • Can you maybe sand some of the bottom off while keeping the tree in the stand?

ETA:  I don't know much (anything) about trees, I just know what I would try.

I was thinking the same thing.  But your Dh sounds like he can be an a$$ when he is "right" about something.  (like my dh can be) So I would probably take the ornaments that would break off and make sure the others are on really good and then take it out of the stand very gently.  (as much as you can with a heavy tree) Then I would try to cut a small part off.  Maybe have a friend, your mom, a church member, a neighbor, the mailman, or someone help you.

I cant stand when dh tells me something and I forget to do it or just dont and he is all "smart a$$" and mean about it.

    Good Luck.

  • It will be fine, Christmas is in a week. We cut ours down the day after Thanksgiving, it hasn't taken in any water in over a week now and is still not losing any needles.?

  • By February it will probably look pretty rough but it will hold up just fine for a measly week or so. Tell your DH that he's the one ruining XMas, not the d@mn tree.
