Well I care because I'd like to know how exposed our IPs were? Was it just mods and Onederful or were they available to anyone that happened to notice?
As far as using the info to expose AEs, I don't have a problem with that. And I don't really have an issue with however she got the info, it would just ease my mind a bit if I knew they were only available to a limited number of people and not anyone that just looked at the site.
I give up trying to get a ticker. I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome. Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself. Hmmm. How about...
"It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like "What about lunch?" - A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh
Can we just let this one go, guys? I think we can all agree that the information shared brought a lot of peace of mind to some people that had been victimized and raised red flags on people that many of us were close with and needed to know not to trust them with anything private. If there was any abuse of power, I'm thankful for it and would hate to see that person be penalized for trying to protect their e-friends.
If this becomes frequent or used for evil, I'd feel differently.
During the brief time that the forum changes were up, only mods could see IP addresses and email addresses. I don't know if that was the intention of the Bump Gods to make it that way or if they didn't set the privacy settings correctly. I didn't have a chance to ask because work called me away and when I came back, the site was down.
Thank you

I hear your concern, but this isn't a new permanent thing. It's just a flaw in the transition to the new site.
Well if that is the case and IP addresses won't be available for public viewing by mods or otherwise, my tits are considerably calmer than when I entered this thread.
So that thread disappeared, huh? I'll reiterate, I was not those malicious AEs, never targeted anyone, said mean sh!t, none of the above. I honestly think something glitchy/IT-related happened.
I think a lot of people want to believe you. It's just tough since we know it wasn't an IT glitch about MGK since she confirmed it was true.
Even if it was a mod. I don't see how rooting out trolls is an abuse of power.
Um. Dude. I get that you are very friendly with OM and whatnot, but I seriously cannot believe that someone can't see any underlying issue with a mod telling another poster IP addresses.
I think if it was a mod finding out, I doubt the IP addresses were passed along, more that their results were, and OM didn't want to cause issues so she said she saw the IPs.

It all comes down to this: TB's IT people cannot seem to get off their couches long enough to be sure something works before they roll it out. Or, heck, something works on the site itself without a new format. It is amazing how behind this site is compared to even the simplest options of message boards elsewhere.
If mods cannot see IPs, that's great- I agree, I just hope TB Gods work a little faster in putting AE's together and banning them. The three day wait coming back is a step in the right direction.
So I guess one of the other boards found that one of their mods is a douchebagAE. Or several.

What board? I'm down to lurk some drama.
S12
It looked like 8+ pages. I only read a couple, enough to see that it might not have been just mods who could see the IPs during the glitch, and that other people have bigger drama than we do and I am so grateful for that.

Pro Tip: The lowest bidder among third-party IT vendors is not always the best choice.
Lol.
And Team OM. She didn't have to put the info out there and she wasn't doing it as a public service. People are upset with her are seriously misdirecting their frustration.

I don't care if OM saw the IP addresses personally.
That's not the point of what happened and if people are focusing on that, they need to get their heads out of their respective buttholes.

You don't understand the appeal of Benedict Cumberbatch / think he's fug / don't know who he is? WATCH SHERLOCK. Until you do, your negative opinion of him will not be taken seriously.
Let me first say that I am not mad at OM. If I had that info in front of me, I don't know if I'd be able to resist sharing it either.
But I am irritated as h3ll at the Bump. For years, they've been telling us they have no ability to track IPs and wringing their hands at us that they're nothing they can do about the AEs, even when people post truly vile stuff that all but shuts down the boards. Now, it turns out that they do have all the IPs and aren't even safeguarding them?!
I'd like to know if IP tracking is a feature that was brought in with the new platform or if this is something they've had all along and just been to lazy or incompetent to use.
I don't have too many illusions about internet privacy, but I do feel like sites shouldn't make it easy for members to stalk other members, especially when they do little to no moderation to discourage the crazies in the first place.
I dunno, guys. The more I think about it the more p!ssed off I get.
In the cast of Pfft specifically, it doesn't matter if OM saw her IP address for identifying reasons.
A lot of us have e-known Pfft for years. There are people who have met her IRL and hung out with her and her child. Knowing her IP address wouldn't add any information that she hadn't given freely in the past.
That being said, I have no problem with mods having the power of knowing IP addresses. That makes it much much easier for TB to identify trolls and ban them on the IP level, effectively banning them for lyfe or until they get a different IP address.
It adds several steps to the process and, if a person is so gung-ho about trolling an internet message board, maybe the additional steps will help them take a step back and ask themselves what the f'uck is wrong with them.
Pfft's trolls were not very malicious. She said a handful of cruel things but it was basically for shiit stirring. But there ARE people out there who get very very personal and hurtful.
THOSE are the people who need to be identified and banned and since the BGs can't be here all the time, it's up to the mods to have the identifying power.
And that's all I'm going to say about that.

I don't care to rehash it all. You either were here for her billion identities and bullshizz or you buy into her niceness. It is what it is.
I don't know what you're referring to. It's not like TPIS was a total as$hole in the spirit of LCB. She (has) added some fun to the board.
.
You are clearly clueless to the backstory so perhaps staying out of it would be best.

Non-bump/Nest employees should not have access to IPs. This includes volunteer moderators, even BostonKisses, who I would personally send all my IPs to.
It's actually a pretty serious violation of internet privacy principles I'm still processing. I'm also waiting for a serious statement from BJ or other Admin.

This is my siggy. Love it.
seeing IPs- who cares?
posting IPs- only dumb sluts do that. (hi JMS!)
So which is the lesser of evils, a mod exposing a malicious AE or the AE roaming free?
For reals ya'll...let it go.
This is my siggy. Love it.
Thank you
Good to know your tits are feeling better.

hiiiiiii! yes i heard of the AE/IP gate and just read the first couple pages before it was deleted.

Well, clearly I'm clueless.
I just want the board to get back to where it was last summer. I've stayed away because it's been so weird.
Didn't she clear things up by showing up for the Atlanta GTG?
You don't *have* to be nice. But don't tell her she sucks.
Can't we all just get along?
I think this came up yesterday somewhere.
