I just purchased a couple of interlock wool shorties for an amazing price, but the momma did let me know that one of the pairs has a pretty large lanolin stain. For the price I am ok with the stain, but I was wondering if anyone has a tried and true way of removing them... I have looked online and have seen everything from soaking in hot water (wouldn't it shrink?) using vinegar, blue dawn, scrubbing it like crazy (felting?), and even soaking it in pee (kind of weird....). Soooo instead of trying all these out and ruining my wool I thought I would ask the pros on here instead. :-)
Re: Removing Lanolin Stains on Wool???
Mandmeesh- Lanolin is a good thing, but when done correctly it doesn't stain. I personally like to use a crapload and my wool will even get tacky feeling on the inside, but it never leaves a stain or mark.
I can be the most stupid person in the world, but for my understand any kind of wool have a natural stain resisting properties.and I think is the lanoline, for all the suggestions that you are talking,I don't think can help to your wool,my only suggestion is that you should try washing it normal with a lanoline bar soap, and just rubber the spot with a tooth bruch ( whit a very gentle strokes) so your wool won't get damage.and then lanolize and make sure the lanoline dissolve completed.after that it should be fine.
about the pee,I know they use it for washing a very fine carpets, like the camel hair.i also know that long time ago,in Greece all the poor people used to sell their pee to certain plaices, and the urine was use to was cloths for the very rich people and I thing the cloths for the gladiator too. Yes,I'm talking about the time of pompeya, etc.and believe or know the urine is excellent to remove stain, because of the acid of the urine, and it doesn't smell at all. I do have a camel rug that if has been wash with urine and the wine stain has disappear from it.
Wow, I had no idea urine was used to take stains out. It seems so counter-intuitive, but I guess it is going to get pee on it anyways... I will take a look at the stain once I get it and hopefully a good wash and relanolizing will do the trick.
LOL, good point. I guess it sounds like you could use anyone's pee, but I don't think I am ballsy enough to try it myself. However, if anyone does try it, please let me know how it works! ;-)
you make my laugh,I haven't idea how they can catch the baby pee,but for my understanding they use adult pee.
but I do remember one thing.in my country, usually this is for woman that get dark spot on their face while their are pregnant. They use the baby urine to remove the stain for their face.so the first month of live of the babies the mom every time they change the babies diapers.they wait a little bit, for putting the next diaper, and usually after a few min the baby pees again so they catch the urine in a cloth wipe or whatever they have, and then they put the urine on their face, while the pee still warm.
a norther interesting thing a bout pee,is the some people who practice Ayurvedic medicine or holistic Medicine,I don't remember wish one is it. They drink they own pee, they call it the water of life. they said if has a very powerful properties to cure certain deceased, but in order for them to drink it,their body has to be detox front any kind of meat,or drugs.
What country are you from? Does the pee actually get rid of dark spots???
im from a small village of Toluca,Mexico.and most of the laydies that I know, including my sister they said it work.
and to be honest,I did it for my self to help me with the acne the at get while I was pregnant.i just did if for one week I also did it to help me to get my belly back to normal after delivery my LO.
