Underwear for toddler girls?

Seriously why do all the boy underwear have all the cool characters on them? We are going to attempt potty training this summer and my daughter has no clue/interest in princesses/Dora/Tangled/Minnie. However she loves all things Thomas/Mickey/Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc. But those characters are only on the boys' underwear. WTF?

Re: Underwear for toddler girls?

  • I say let her wear boy underwear.  Boy's briefs fit better anyway.  Yay for no wedgies!!

ETA:  FTR, I wore mens briefs in late high school/early college.  I love them.  In fact this makes me want to buy some to wear to bed at night.  They are so comfy.

  • I am going to have her wear the boys but options besides princesses/ponies/fairies would have been nice.

I am thinking of going the no character route too but I think she would enjoy the character underwear betterat least for training purposes.

Buy her some of the boys ones. See how it fits and it she likes them. Some are pretty gender neutral looking.

  • Put her in boy underwear. They seem to be better constructed anyway. Thicker waist and leg bands are more comfortable too.

  • I've also started exclusively buying the Hanes underwear for DD. They hold up, fit better and are cheaper than the character panties. My MIL and my mother have bought character panties for DD and that's fine with me, but my money is going to Hanes.

  • I prefer the Gerber trainer undies. They are lightly padded in the crotch to catch mini accidents. The patterns are cute too...lady bugs, frogs, birds, flowers, and solids.

  • My DD2 wears the boy undies for that very reason. She loves Monsters Inc., Toy Story and Jake & the Neverland Pirates, and they're all considered "boy" patterns apparently.

Plus the boy ones are better constructed, IMO, than the toddler girl character undies -- the elastic is covered better and the fabric is thicker.

We have a bunch of nice non-character undies from Old Navy & Gap, but for that initial motivation piece of "you don't want Jake to get wet, right?", we opted for her favorite characters, "boy" or not.

  • Ditto on the Gerber Trainers. But we also found Pixar (mix of cars, nemo, toy story, and monsters) and Thomas underwear for girls online at Kohl's.  I think they're out of the pixar right now but still have Thomas.
  • I'd but my girl in boy underwear if she picked them out. I agree they're more sturdy and absorbent for possible accidents than flimsy girl panties.

  • Buy her the boy stuff. I see nothing wrong with cross dressing on little kids undies because of the characters they prefer. I think its stupid to only make certain characters for each gender.

  • Take her to the store and let her pick them out. If she picks up 'boy' underwear than so be it.

  • My daughter will be 6 in August.  Ever since potty training, she has worn boy underwear.  I buy her both girl and boy underwear and it has only been less than a year that I have actually bought her girl underwear.  She is slowing becoming more interested in "girl" things (princess, tinkerbell, my little pony).  Her favorite toys are cars, trucks, trains, dinosaurs, snakes and bugs.  I have a picture from my wedding where she is on the ground in her flower girl dress looking at a dead cricket.  But that is my girl.  There is nothing wrong with putting your daughter in boy underwear.  I'm sure there are more girls in boy underwear than my daughter and yours!  Good luck with the potty training!
