Cervial lenghth?

At my u/s today, the lenght varied between 3.6 and 3.8 and didn't change when she applied pressure.  She said antyhing over 3 is good but doesn't that seem a little short or is it ok?  I've seen some people say theirs is like 5 cm but most people are closer to 4 right?

Re: Cervial lenghth?

  • mine was always in that range, and the doctors loved to remark on my "cervix of steel". so, i think you're doing okay. esp since it doesn't change with pressure applied.

and congrats on your boys! :)

  • Hmmm...I don't remember what mine was when I was at your time.  Mine has been at 3.5ish for the last couple of months though.  I do know it can very from appointment to appointment depending on what your activity level has been, etc.

  • We just had a roller coaster of a week because of this.  We had our "big" u/s this week also and my cervix measured at 2.2!!!!  The imagining center called my OB who wanted to see us immediately.  I panicked!!!  We got to the OB and she said she wanted us to see a MFM (high risk specialist) at the hospital we are delivering at.  We saw this doctor two days later and he really eased our fears a lot.  Yes, cervical length is an issue, but being that you (and we) had no measurements prior to this measurement, there is no way in knowing what you length has been.  The MFM dr said that maybe I just naturally have a shorter length.  Long story short it is still something he wants to monitor closely.  He measured (7 times) and got 2.5.  We go back this Thursday for another measurement to see if it stays stable at 2.5.  He said if it does then they will remeasure every 2 weeks.  He explained that a shortened cervix puts you at risk for preterm labor, but so do twins and it doesn't necessarily mean it is going to happen in a week or two.  Yes, it is still a very serious situation, but at 3.6 or 3.8 you are in very good shape.  He told us that he likes to see anything over 3 half way through a pregnancy.  Just an FYI....this doctor is from a very large and well known women's hospital in a metro area.
  • You're totally fine; it just needs to be over 3.

  • My peri told me around 4 is the average they usually look for so you're not too far off.
