I've been happy with my beach tent: more coverage, better sun protection and more resistance against wind and dangerous flying umbrella situations.
We have the lightweight and inexpensive Lightspeed tent available at Costco and online. The set up and take down is super easy and it folds to the size of a large camp recliner, but it only weights a few pounds.
We used a sportbrella, which we got at sams, but you can google it and find it several places.
We liked it because it was easy to put up, and you could either tilt it or put it up right. It also has side flaps that can come down to give more shade.
We will also plan to use it for DS soccer games.
