Sorry, I am not a scientist. Since you are and very educated on the subject, tell me, what is the correct term for the little one that was born yesterday from our birth club? Is she still a fetus, baby or something else?
It is so unbelievably vile that you would drag someone facing the birth of a preemie into this. I was with you being free to express your opinion (even if much of it is wrong when looking at fact based evidence) until this. This is disgusting.
I saw this when I was mobile during lunch and when I got back to the office it was gone. VCK is a squeaky wheel and I choose not to respond to people that act the way she has all day but that comment was vile. Someone has to be truly wicked to use that example to prove a point.

We said goodbye to our sweet Taylor Ashley on August 8, 2012.We lost baby Noelle on May 1, 2015
Mom to Cam and Al, now expecting baby number 3, August 2016. Praying for lots of sticky baby dust!
I just watched the new Miley Cyrus video We Can't Stop and I am so disturbed. What is wrong with young people these days? I'm not old by any means, 27, but it makes me feel so old to be so far disconnected from what is "cool" or "in" these days. That video was gross. Who acts like that. Yes, I know it is a music video but that was someone's idea and she agreed to it. I do not like this trend and I know younger people IRL who act like that. What happened to them? Weirdos!
ETA: I am frightened for the feature of the world!
Ha, that made me go watch it and I'd have to say it's probably not an UO lol. I would say disturbed is an appropriate word for this video. Ugh, it was hard to watch. I will say from a lot of pictures that have been posted of her lately I'm not too surprised though.
Sorry, I am not a scientist. Since you are and very educated on the subject, tell me, what is the correct term for the little one that was born yesterday from our birth club? Is she still a fetus, baby or something else?
It is so

much of it is wrong when looking at fact based evidence) until this.
This is disgusting.
I am very saddened that you would say this... I care very much about her and her child. It wasn't to prove any kind of point. It was for clarification. I know she is a precious little baby and I pray for her health.

No, there's no back stepping from that comment. There's no need for clarification from anyone about that, regardless of our views on abortion. I hope direy doesn't see this post.
I am not stepping back from anything and I never mentioned anyone by name. I feel all babies are babies from the time of conception. I would not wish harm on anyone, in fact, it's quite the opposite.
Umm I would just like to ask a legitimate question about this whole abortion thing. I am not saying I agree or disagree.Babies don't exactly have functioning brains with nueron pathways and such right at conception?
If thats is true then no pathways for the body to send pain messages to the brain means no pain.
I posted the "am I a bad mom if I poke my lo" and I was totally joking. I post mainly to be funny. I was obviously joking and if you didn't catch on then i think you're not so bright.

You are unbelieveliable VCK and a huge shame to this board. I dont understand how you could bring up someone elses scary event to use it in your half witted argument. You really need to take a bump break.

What are you talking about?! I never wrote anything negative about her at all. Why do only the 'wanted' babies matter to you people? I really don't get it. My best friend was born to a 14 year old girl and raised by wonderful adoptive parents! I am grateful she is here! My SIL gave birth to my favorite niece at the age of 15. Thank God she did not go the "easier" route! I cannot comprehend how you people think I had any bad intentions here. Nonetheless, I wish you all well.

You dont think bringing up a woman who just had a preemie baby yesterday and asking what you would call her (or him, I cant remember what she had) and said "Well would you call her a fetus?" Good lord you just dont get it. You can wish me well, and I will wish you would get some sense.
Now I may be the UO here but can we kick people off of our board?
Mentioning the baby was gross, uncalled for, tacky, immature and adick move.
VCK or whatever your name is, you will always be remember for being thedick that brought up someone else's child to prove a point, a dumb one at that.
You got us all. You showed us. Move along now.
I love you right now. I really, truly do. She will never see where she went wrong or how and why she pissed of the lot of us.

As someone jumping onto this now, I will share the obviously UO that I don't think VCK was saying anything mean, vile, etc. about Direy's situation. I interpreted her comment to be, you obviously would not call Direy's baby anything but a baby. What disgusts me is how quickly it got twisted and turned into something horrible. I think it totally got exploited and I'm SMH at the drama on this board right now. Backed up by ppl making comments about wanting to jump of the fb board for entertainment at stupid comments. People like to get fired up a little too much, methinks. I typically like and respect the ladies on this board, but as someone jumping in at the end, my impression is that this whole back and forth and name calling was ridic on both sides. I'm not flattering myself that anyone gives a hit what i think, but it fits in great with the UO thread.

It wasn't exploited. Her comment was dumb. She tried to throw a gotcha at us but it didn't work. She could have easily said, "what do you call a 27 weeker"? Instead she tried making it personal. Fail. Leave other people's kids out of this.
I read, so no need to continue to stoop and insult. Just because i disagree doesn't mean I didn't read or am too dumb to understand whats going on. Maybe I just see it differently than you do. That's okay. It's allowed. It doesnt make me wrong or you wrong. We can disagree without it needing to mean the other person is an idiot. its called tolerance. Funny lack of tolerance on both sides is what made this thread take such a nasty name calling low blow turn.

I agree that VCK didn't mean anything disrespectful. That's pretty much the only thing I agree with her on.

She wasn't trying to be disrespectful. She was trying to prove her point. Her example was in bad taste. She could have been generic but instead she choose to be specific. In my opinion, it was gross and uncalled for.
Yeah, you don't use someone's hardships to make your asinine point.

Stoop and insult?!? um ok. I didn't call you out of your name. I told you to go back and read. I didn't call you dumb or anything else. I used your "methink" language.
You can have your opinion and I can have mine. I am tolerant. I just don't want her using someone's kid as evidence to prove her point. It was in bad taste and I would be livid if I was the mom.
IMO, telling me you think I should go back and read was condescending but that may not have been your intent. That's where I got the insulting comment from. I agree you didn't explicitly call me stupid. Just letting you know how it came across to me. I apologize if misinterpreted your intent.
FYI since you are SO concerned with things that feel pain:
Plants respond to stimuli by shuddering - making small but subtle
movements that prove, according to fetal pain science, that plants feel
pain too. So you should probably value your dead houseplants more.
STICK THAT UP YOUR BUTT HOLE VCK.
i know we've just met, but I kind of love you.
You should love Grr_aargh (or whatever the spelling is). She just didnt have the energy for the debate today, so I offered to pass it on for her.
But I lurve you too
Kiti is my lover.
Now that I have a moment, I'd like to pop in and say this: Peer reviewed scholarship has shown two important things in the fetal pain debate. The first is this -- the neural pathways required to carry what we understand as pain aren't up and moving until 24-26 weeks gestation - but more importantly, the hypothalamus which is the essential hormonal recipient/reporter of pain, doesn't get it first brainy spark until about 28 weeks gestation.
Fascinatingly, this is AFTER the "viability" and "no third trimester" abortions set forth by Roe v Wade and subsequent decisions.
The twenty week ban on a national scale has no purpose OTHER than to undermine the Roe decision in order to push the issue back in front of SCOTUS. This isn't about fetal pain.
Nebraska, freshman passer of fetal pain legislation, proved they didn't care about fetal pain when they put pro-20 week ban "scientists" and pseudo science in front of the Unicam and refused to hear the story of a woman whose baby had glass bone syndrome - a baby whose every move shattered limbs - for whom hiccups meant fractures and the pain associated with it.
I have watched in my reproductive days - many many women have or end unexpected pregnancies. Of all of them - they tended toward the standard statistical variations - with the vast majority of them having first trimester abortions and only two after the 20 week mark due to anomalies identified AT the 20 week ultrasound. One had a child without a brain whose umbilical cord was prolapsed through her uterine wall. Birthing the brainless child would quite literally rip her uterus in half. And probably kill her. The other had a child who was literally being cut into pieces in utero from amniotic band syndrome.
So if you want to talk about fetal pain - let's talk about FETAL PAIN. Abortions performed after 20 weeks account for about 1% of all abortions nationwide - and the vast majority of those are done to PREVENT, LESSEN, or END fetal pain or are performed on brainless babies - who are MUCH WANTED - but never going to live. Ever.
So, VCK, my point stands: There's a lot you can do to avoid having plants. And if someone accidentally gives you one, beware that it likely shudders in your presence. By your crappy pseudo science, that means it's in pain.
No plants for you.
But abortions for all patients who have decided that it is the best and most humane option for their babies.
I don't think VCK was trying to be mean. She was trying to prove a point. Some of the ladies were pushing and pushing for evidence and facts.
Maybe the comment was insensitive but it's hard to see tone on a message forum.
FYI my first born was born at 27 weeks. I have no reason to be offended by her comment.
She also didn't use your kid to make her invalid point the day after your child was born. Many people would be offended; I absolutely would be livid that someone whored out my kid's situation to be an assshole.

I am so sad I never get to participate in these discussions. I usually don't have the time to read through earlier in the day. Everything has usually died down by this hour and there's not much that I can add that hasn't already been said.
Just wanted to say this was a very interesting, informative and entertaining read (even the idiotic statements). And congrats on some actual UOs.

Yeah but I have enough sense to not let Facebook, Social Media and Message Forums not dictate my life or feelings. Again I WOULD HAVE NOT BEEN OFFENDED by it if it was my child as the example. To each their own. There are bigger world problems then what someones opinion is versus mine. I do not try to shove my thoughts and ideas down peoples throats especially when I know nothing about them.
Seconded!!!! grr_aargh -- thank you for your knowledge on this topic! I didn't know about the specifics of the case (e.g. the congressman who doesn't care about fetal pain) and though I had a sense of the stats on abortions (when they happen, for what reasons, etc) I did not know them as well as you.
The sad thing is that people on the other side of the debate are unwilling to engage in these kinds of posts. VCK kept responding long after I wrote a thorough response to one of her messages and NEVER acknowledged that thorough response where I refuted what she was saying point by point. She just latched on to something else. Personally I was even throwing her a bone saying that science can't disprove the existence of souls starting at conception or anything like that...just that science weighs in on pain.
I do have to agree that the appalling issue of the 20 week debate is that it's just there to try to push the envelop again and eventually eliminate abortion altogether. In some places there are so many restrictions set up that abortions are essentially outlawed.
