How many hours?

How many straight hours of sleep do you all get out of your LO at night?

My guy wakes every night at 4am on the dot! I'm trying to cut this out. He goes down every night at 8pm, so really he is sleeping 8 straight hours then waking at 4. Am I asking too much by trying to cut the 4am wake out? Thanks!

Re: How many hours?

  • LO goes to bed 7:30-8:30 and gets up for good around 6:30-7.  He has been waking up around 5:30 for a bottle but we are working on cutting that out!  Last night was night 1; he managed to survive until 6:30 so I think he's going to be OK.

  • My DD wakes up at 6 am every single day,  no matter when she goes to sleep. She's usually in her crib between 7-7:30, so she typically sleeps 10.5-11 hours. She just cut out her 3 am wake up at 9 months... we realized that it was more of a habit because she wasn't really wanting to eat much at that time, so we stopped getting her out of her crib. Eventually she got to the point where we no longer needed to go in, and then she stopped waking at that time altogether. Now to get her to sleep past 6... ;)

  • Dagny generally sleeps about 9 hours straight wakes to nurse and then goes back down for a couple hours. Sometimes it's a longer stretch sometimes shorter. She does not wake at the same time every day and sometimes will do 12 straight and not do a MOTN feed.

He's been getting between 11 and 12 straight hours for the past 2 or 3 months. Before that though we were up like every 3 hours or so. We didn't do any formal sleep training.

  • She goes to bed around 8:30 and gets up for the day between 7 and 8 in the morning.. But she always wakes up around 5:00am and I nurse her then she'll fall back asleep.

  • We get anywhere from 8 to 9 hours. Then he wakes up for a bottle and he's back to bed 30 minutes later for a 3 hour nap. If I could cut out that 5 am bottle I'm sure he could go a full 12 hours. We've tried so far with no luck though.

  • We put LO in his crib between 7:15 and 7:30 every night and he is usually out by 7:35 at the lastest. He wakes up between 5:45 and 6:30 and plays in his crib for about 30 mins happily before he starts fussing. We usually end up getting him between 6:30 and 7:30.

So he sleeps about 10.5 to 11 hours a night. Every once in a while he will wake up MOTN and fuss for 5-10 mins before going back to sleep, but that happens maybe 1 out of every 4 nights or so.

  • This last weekend we had a glitch because we were staying in a hotel and she was in a strange bed in a strange place. But typically she'll sleep from around 7:30 or 8 until 7:30. The disruption has her waking up at 6 the last couple of days, but we go in and put in her pacifier and she'll fal back asleep until 7:45 or so. Hopefully it's fixed soon.

  • Thanks ladies! My LO would usually wake at 4am then I would nurse and he would go right back down until 8am but the last week or so he won't go back down, I was misrible all day! The past 2 nights I didn't go in his room at 4am when he woke up. The first night he cried bloody murder for about a half hour. Last night he cried, but not so bad, for about 20 mins...so we are making progress! Thanks again!
  • About 11-12 on a good night.

Most nights we get about 4 hour stretches and some nights she goes 8. She has never gone a single night where she didnt wake up at least once.

This is about right for us too.
