Baby Names

Thoughts on...

So just wondering how many people think its horrible to use a name when a friend or someone you know has a child with the name? If you are friends but dont see them any where near a regular basis. Is it bad to use the same name. I like two names right now luke and noah but problem is i have two friends who used them within the last year or so

Re: Thoughts on...

  • unless its a close family member i don't see the problem. they are more common names so i wouldn't say it is copying. especially if you aren't close, your kids might never see eachother when it comes down to it, and probably won't know the other into adulthood.

a name is a lifetime, so unless they are stuck together for a lifetime like family there is no issue name sharing

  • Use them. You wont know them, or won't see them. I wouldn't think anything of it.

  • I agree that it's not a big deal but I wouldn't use names people I knew used. I'm particular like that. I'd feel like I could do better for my child.

Im trying not too but ive always been real picky on boy names. Problem ia i also have alot of cousins due around the same time.or who had boys recent so i definately stay away from thoae names.
  • I think it's totally a situational thing. There's one or two distant friends that I wouldn't feel bad about using the same name they did, and there's several where I think it would be weird.

I also think it's fine if it's more common or trendy, and not something very unique where they'd be the only two kids in the city to have the name.

  • Luke/Lucas and Noah are both pretty popular aside from being solid traditional names.  I would absolutely use it without hesistation if a friends child had the same name.

I'd probably still use them if they are the only names you like. Noah and Luke are not uncommon so I wouldn't worry about it.

  • I think with a casual acquaintance, it's no big deal.  Luke and Noah are in high demand, so it's not like you're copying them or anything.  Name your child your favorite name.
