This is probably a stupid question but I'm going to ask it anyway! :-)
If you can't get your LO to keep a hat on his/her head (even the kind with chin strap) how do you protect their head from the sun? Has anyone put sunscreen on their LO's scalp? I would imagine that's kind of a greasy mess but DS doesn't have a whole lot of hair and I would hate for him to get a sunburn on his scalp - which I've had and it is not fun! We do limit his exposure to the sun to early morning and late afternoon/evening, but I'm wondering if I need to be doing anything other than trying to keep a hat on him. TIA!

Our rule is that DS has to wear a hat to go outside. He knows it. No hat = no outside. Gets him to wear a hat w/o a problem.
I know all kiddos are different, but it seems like a pretty reasonable expectation of your child and a pretty easy rule to enforce. I wouldn't be messing around with putting sunscreen in DS's hair when there is a much easier solution.

I started using a hat with pretty tight straps (not on purpose, it came that way) and K couldn't rip it off. She HATED it at first and screamed and was acting weird every time we put it on. T after a while she got used to it and now she actually asks for her "up" to be on... Hah
for the times when I don't put her hat on but she's in the sun for a while, I spray her head with spf 50 banana boat kids sunscreen. She has long wispy hair that starts kind of far on the scalp... and it makes a real mess (def need a hair wash after) but it seems to work.
