Yes, I was happy with it. We find a part-time nanny for my son when I first went back to work. And this past spring, we needed a backup nanny for a couple of days when grandma went into the hospital and grandpa wanted to be with her.
We were lucky who we found. But this is more on a local basis, and I live in Seattle.
I would say that it is good to screen the applicants. I interviewed a couple of applicants and found someone that was a good match for our family.
With the back up care, I had to make a fast decision, so I was only able to screen over email and telephone. But it worked out with finding back up care.

Blessing from God, Blessing from God, Blessing from God, Blessing from God.
We did. We found a part time nanny for LO when I went back to work. I interviewed several people and went with the women I got the best vibes from. She worked out great and did an excellent job. I liked that they provided background checks and verified their social security numbers. I thought it was worth the money to join. I canceled my membership after I found someone so I only paid for 1 month.
I haven't used it, but I do know that a couple of the younger woman who work at my daycare are on there to provide night/weekend care. So I definitely think there are good, reliable people on there if they are an example.
A couple years ago before I had LO I was on care.com and the couple I ended up babysitting for met me, did a background check, I hung out with the girls while Mom was home, then I was hired. It worked well.
I think it's a good site to get an applicant pool from but then obviously do your own interview/checking.
A coworker has used care.com locally, & when she lived in CO for nannies & she had rave reviews about it. She had been able to find full time & part time help easily & was very happy with the nannies she chose. My DH is a stay at home parent, so we didn't need a nanny or babysitter, but she recommended the site to me if we ever did need someone.

I LOVE the babysitter we found on care.com. We're a military family, so no family members nearby for even a dinner date alone. She's amazing with our LO.
We have mixed reviews on it. Found 2 really good back-up sitters, but one who we thought was great turned out to be a weirdo! She was going to school for animation and left her sketch pad at our house. I was flipping through it and found some weird to-do list with things like "wake up, put on underwear, go pee"... with her whole day listed out like that. And what was really creepy was random notes she sketched down like "I did nothing wrong. The mother was really over protective. I am ok." Needless to say, we mailed her the sketch pad and never called her again. And she had really good references. But the other girl we hired is great.
