WWYD? Allergies

DD has had a cold on and off since January. I finally noticed that she seems fine when we are away from the house. Then it hit me! Saturday she was fine until she got around the 2 cats that were abandoned (that we are now feeding). The cats started hanging around more in January. Boy, nothing gets by me!

We also have a huge oak tree in the back and I guess the pollen from that could be causing her some problems. If it's the oak tree, she should be better at the end of this month.

So, should I put DD through an allergy test? Or should we just get rid of the cats? They are never inside the house. DD adores the cats. They also love her!

WWYD?

  • I'd get the allergy test. She may be allergic to more than the cats and the oak tree, and it's easier to treat and deal with allergies when you know what you are dealing with.

  • As an allergy pt.  I would recommend getting the allergy test before you get rid of the cats.  My brother swore up and down for years he was allergic to out cats (in my childhood home -even when he was an adult and would visit).  We all ended up getting tested for allergies as adults.  Not one of us is allergic to cats.  We are allergic to mold, dust mites, pollen and a few other things.  I'm home today with dd because she got dx with allergies and asthma after a very tough winter.  She had a follow-up appointment today (and she's sick too).  My siblings and I also have asthma.  Do the test.
