Baby Names

would it be weird?

Do you think it would be weird to nickname Lorelai "Lilly"?  I love the way it sounds, and I feel like it just might slip out but I'm not sure if it's too far fetched. P.S. I am not a fan of Lori.

Re: would it be weird?

  • I don't think it would be weird but it is a little far fetched. I was at the dr the other day and there was a little girl in the waiting room named Loralei, and they called her Lora. I've also heard Rory as a nn but IMO that's a little far fetched as well. I think Loralei is a great name.

I like it. It's a beautiful name and beautiful nickname. I'm also a Gilmore Girls fan, although the nickname of Rory never made as much sense as some of the others. Kind of like Libby for Elizabeth - puzzles me :)

  • I don't think it's to far fetched. Makes more sense than Rory.

  • Why not just name her Lily?

Sorry, I just think that it's a bit of a stretch. I have, however, seen Rory used (on the TV show) as nickname. It makes it less of a stretch due to the fact that I've seen it done before.

  • I like both names.  I'm not sure if Lilly is a nickname I would think of from Lorelai.

  • It's only wierd in so much that people wouldn't just to it on their own, but if you introduce her as Lily (or, this is Lorelei, but we call her lily), then people will call her Lily. I wouldn't side-eye it at all.
