TTC after 35

Talked to OB about 6+ months

This cycle is a bust.  AF isn't here yet, but I'm 14DPO with BFNs and spotting...the writing is on the wall.  We've now been trying for a year without a successful pg AND it's been 6 cycles of trying since the mc in Nov.  It was time to make the call to her.

I had an appt with her yesterday and she put me in for a referral to an RE and had a bunch of labs drawn.  DH has to do an SA as well.  Some of my numbers are rolling in and so far all are in the normal range.  Still missing AMH and some other tests on the list though.

I'm curious what to expect at the first visit with an RE.  They'll have our results in-hand by the time I can get in there (pending insurance approval, which could take a couple weeks).

Re: Talked to OB about 6+ months

  • We saw ours' the day we had labs drawn and then again after he got all of the results. I would think the visit will depend largely on your results. Ours were all normal, except my TSH. He suggested trying a few more months on our own (after my TSH has lowered) and if we still haven't had success to come back. We decided that if we're not successful by August, we'll try IUI.

  • Your appt., will be based around your test results and past medical history, as pp stated. Best of luck and keep us posted on how it goes......

  • I knew at least some of what would be discussed would be based on our labs.  Figured they'd look at the numbers and get some history and help us work out a plan on how to move forward.  Unfortunately we're slated to move in a few months, so we're likely getting the labs rolling and such just to switch REs.  I'm still glad we're getting the ball rolling as DH is military and we'll be apart some the next two years due to his job...no time to waste.

  • If I recall mine wanted more labs and a cd3 ultrasound and an HSG. H also had to do his SA and we both had to do infectious disease panels. I think they gave us antibiotics too. So it was a month of tasks and then we reconvened. My h had low motility and I had a huge fibroid which I had had for years. She just looked over everything and gave us her recommendations based on our issues. In our case she said myomectomy surgery for the fibroid and then go straight to IVF for the best chance.
    Me:39 Dx LPD, Fibroid, AMA and all that goes with that. H:37 Dx low motility and low morphology. TTC since 3/12. Clomid 8/12 and 9/12: BFN. 11/12 on a break for Myomectomy sched. 11/26. Resume TTC early 2013.

    If you've been charting, bring those with you as well.  Ours looked at them and also took our medical history and reviewed our tests.
    I already have them printed out (in case my OB wanted to see), so I'll bring those. It's not the full year, per se, but it should be enough to give the doctor an idea of what's up. (I charted the first month AF returned after my DS, then was just marking AF/spotting and intercourse until my pg last fall...which ended after just three months, been charting the last seven months though). I'm figuring in addition to my pg history they'll also want to hear about the fibroid removal I had nearly five years ago.

    If you have any recent imaging reports or studies, I'd bring those as well.nbsp; My RE looked at my HSG images, but they were only a few months old, and I knew they showed a problem.nbsp; I think 7 months of recent charting is enough unless you have a really wonky cycle.nbsp; I think they're just looking for patterns/the gist of it.nbsp;
    They'd have access to all of my ultrasound images [three pg, one kid at home]. I did have a hysteroscopy, but it was in 2009...is that too long ago to matter?
