Thoughts on Miller for a boy?

Sorry to be a PW, boring day at work..

I love this name, it is a family name that otherwise will never be carried on, and I think it makes an awesome FN but I can't get MH on board. (ETA even for a MN!)

Re: Thoughts on Miller for a boy?

  • I want to like it but just think beer..   I have a feeling though its one of those names if I actually knew attached to someone I may like it a lot more
  • It's OK, but if your H isn't on board it's a no go.

Maybe he would be OK with it as a middle?

  • I love it! Have a friend that did the same thing as it was a name that would be lost. They use the nn Mills for their little guy.

his nickname in hs and college will be Miller-Time if not before by your friends.  For me it fails the resume checklist.  I think it would be a great mn.

  • I like family surnames as first names, but if your DH doesn't agree, then it's out.  But maybe you can get him to consider it as a MN if you give him final say over the FN.  I wouldn't love it as a FN without the family connection, but if you feel strongly about having a MN from your side, that seems perfectly reasonable to me.  I usually don't think anyone should get fixated on ONE name the other parent doesn't like, but using family names is important to me (both our kids have names from my side in the FN or MN spot), and if DH objected to a family name I wanted to use and would accept in the MN spot, I'd really push back on that.

  • I really like it, but I'm biased.  It's my grandfather's mn and if we ever have a boy it will be our son's mn also.

  • I love this name!  I would use it but know a friend who used it for her son, plus our name starts with an m.

I could see myself saying "it's miller time!"  ...fun.

I like it for a middle name, but not a first name.
  • It's not bad.

  • I love it.  And I love the beer lol.  Too bad our last name is White and even  though I love the beer, Miller White is a bit too close to Miller Light haha

Not a fan of last names as first names and automatically think of beer with Miller.

  • My maiden name is miller, and I can tell you that I have had almost all of the nicknames listed! Millertime, killa milla, milla the thrilla, the list goes on. But the one that stuck since high school 10 years ago is gorilla milla. That one is never going away! I think any name will attract its own nickname, but if you love it, then you should use it. Only reason we aren't using miller as a first name for our baby is because after I got married, people started calling me millerAllen as a nickname and so it would just be weird to me! Haha

  • We have a family member that used it.  They have a VERY common last name so this makes their LO stand out a bit.  At first I was a bit eh about it but I have to say that I absolutely love it so much now.  It really suits their son.
