Checking in

Hey ladies, I've been MIA for the past week or so... I've wanted to comment on a lot of the threads but just haven't had the time.

H has been super gassy/uncomfortable/fussy the past couple weeks, and L had an ear infection and was teething. The pedi thinks that H has a dairy and soy intolerance, and prescribed her zantac drops? (I can't remember). She's also been very congested and "gaggy" for lack of a  better word, so she has trouble sleeping on her back.. which means I haven't been sleeping much either.

Basically I'm saying that I've been wicked busy with both of them and haven't even had time to lurk that often... and I might be having withdrawals!

I have to call the pedi back on Tuesday to see if the drops (and my diet) are helping her tummy issues improve. If she doesn't make any improvements, then she said she will refer us to a GI specialist. I really really hope we don't have to go down that route. :-(

Anywho.. I hope you are all doing well, hopefully once H's tummy issues get better, and L stops being a terrible two (haha) I'll be able to have more time to catch up with everyone. :-)

  • I'm sorry your kids are miserable. I know that's no fun!!

DD2 has a lactose intolerance and reflux issues. Zantac is usually prescribed for reflux.

We switched to soy formula and it made a world of difference in DD2. However, her reflux got bad enough that our pedi wanted us to try the a.r. Formula.

It made a HUGE difference with her spit up but her milk rash/gas/cramping came back almost instantly.

Her happy medium is 2/3 soy 1/3 ar formula. We have not had to use medications for her.

  • Sorry to hear things have been rough! I hope things gets better soon. When P was gassy and miserable the only thing that helped was the rock and play.
    Keep us posted!

Hey there! I'm sorry that you are having to deal with the gas issue. That's no fun. Hopefully things work out soon and give you some time to relax and catch up.

  • I would go see the GI. It's totally painless and will make a huge difference. We were told to put Lo on her left side propped up to sleep that really helped her.

I'm sorry you're having such a rough time. That sounds awful! L had a Milk/Soy/Protein Intolerance and severe reflux, so I feel your pain. We spent a good chunk of his 1st year at the pedi and GI dr. Good luck with it and I hope you get it all figured out. An uncomfortable, non-sleeping infant with a toddler is no fun at all!
  • Hey!  N had horrible, horrible gas, reflux, etc.  We saw a GI at Children's Boston and they put him on zantac and the next med up and it did nothing.  The only thing that calmed his belly and helped him sleep was colic calm.  You can get it at CVS.  It's the only FDA approved gripe water.  It has vegetable charcoal in it which soothes their bellies in an instant.   The GI specialist we saw at Children's and our pedi both said it was fine to give him.  We went through bottles of it in the first year.  It was an honest to god life saver.

Obviously ask your dr but it was the only thing that worked.  If he didn't have it, he could only sleep in 15-20 min increments all.night.long.   We still use it when hes gassy.  Sorry everything is so tough.. good luck, mama!
