Side effects of going off BC

What side effects have you experienced after going off BC? I know it takes several months for your body to adjust and get back to "normal," but curious what others have experienced. I have been extremely tired and low energy. I'm sure it's just my hormones out of whack...but still in the back of my mind, I'm worried it might be something more.

Re: Side effects of going off BC

  • I was really fatigued and had a low grade headache the first week I was off BC. My first period was horrible (severe cramping, heavy flow, mood swings...). I was on a pill with a high dose of estrogen. I've only been off it for about 5 weeks. It seems to be getting better. You might just need some time for your body to adjust.

  • The only thing I remember is having heavier more painful periods, and of course they werent as regular.

  • I felt incredible after getting off BC. My period produced worse cramps, of course, but I was sleeping better and had much less anxiety than I had when I was on it. Best of luck adjusting! Oh, and maybe take a pregger test?

I did try taking a test. AF came a few days after...which is fine since we're not planning to really TRY until next month anyways. Thanks for the input, ladies! :)

  • I can say that being off of birth control was the best decision I have made. It did, like you said, take my body a few months to normalize but once I was normal, I just simply felt healthier! Even if you do experience side effects from going off off it, it will be worth it! And if you are going off of it but still want to not get pregnant, we have been using natural family planning (knowing when to use condoms and when not to) and it has been great. Just make sure you don't get too heated "in the moment" and forget!

Good luck with everything! It will get better!

  • This is actually my first cycle being off of my BC.  Around CD12 I started experiencing extremely sore and heavy breasts.  I am on CD27 now and they STILL feel that way... I'm sure AF is on her way.  That's really the only big change I've noticed for me.  DH and I aren't TTC just yet, so I'm just taking the next few months to figure out my cycle.
