My DD is almost 3 months old and she is FF only. She usually goes down for the night between 7-8. Her bottle right before bed is approx 3-4 oz. She usually eats 3-4 oz during the day, about every 2-3 hrs. Does your LO take a bigger bottle before bed? Wondering if I should try to increase the time between her late afternoon bottle and bed bottle so she drinks more.
Also, my DD will do about a 6-7 hr stretch so usually wakes at 2am. I make a 6 oz bottle and she usually drinks 4-5 oz of it. But should I be getting her to drink less during this feeding? What does your LO do for middle of night feeding?
Thank you!!!
Re: Question about LO's bottle before bed and middle of the night feeding....
My LO is a little younger than yours (7weeks) but she still takes 4oz with each bottle, usually every 2-3 hours. She goes to bed around 10-11pm and wakes up around 5am for a feeding, so that is her only "long" stretch. We still give her 4oz.
We tried making 5-6oz to see if it would help her sleep longer but she wouldn't take it and we just ended up wasting the formula!
My DS is almost 3 months old, and takes a 5-5 1/2 oz bottle every 3-4 hours during the day (depends on his naps). He's a big boy, almost 15 lbs, so he can eat quite a bit. Sometimes he won't take the whole bottle though, we just follow his cues. I always try to make sure he takes the full 5 1/2 ozs before bed though, to ensure he's nice and full and sleeps well. He sleeps from about 9pm to 5am every night.
I've read that if you can up their intake of formula during the day, like make sure they're eating their full bottles, it will help them at night to sleep longer stretches. I don't know if this is true, but it seems to work for us!
This is what happened with us with DD. She would eat formula every 3 hours she was awake, usually ending by about 8pm. If she got what she needed during the day, she slept through the night (8-10 hours)
