Two Under 2

Transition to room sharing-tips please?

We have no choice but to start the transition to the two of them sharing rooms very soon (DS is outgrowing the pack n play, the crib won't fit in our bedroom, and we're in a 2BR apt) I have always said I was cool with it, and that even if we had 5BRs, I'd still want them to share. But of course now that the time is nearing, I'm getting nervous.

DD goes down super easy-we sing a song, play music, and walk out the door. DS still needs shushed and rocked to sleep, and still wakes up sometimes maybe an hour after we lay him down. I just don't really have a clue where to start with this. Also, naps!?! AH!! Anyone have any tips/advice?

Re: Transition to room sharing-tips please?

  • We did the transition at around 8 months, once DS2 was sleeping a bit more. We did the routine together, Ds1 got into bed, while I rocked/nursed ds2. If he would wake I would quickly go in and get him back to sleep. But really they adapted quickly, DS1 doesn't wake to his brothers crying and I would sit in there if he woke and rock or nurse him back to sleep. For naps I do the same routine for both in the afternoon. But for the morning nap, I put a childproof knob cover on the door so Ds1 could not get in and wake him.

Just pull the bandaid off! I'm sure it will be fine and they will adapt, GL!

Love it! haha. I do think they'll adapt quickly, and I'm hoping in the long run it turns into a really good thing. I'm just nervous. :/ But everything you explained was kind of how I picture it. A knob cover is a great idea! Thanks for that suggestion!

Also, this may or may not be your situation....almost all of her toys are in her bedroom as well, so when the littlest is napping, I thought about just telling her before he lays down to take whatever she wants to play with out to the living room. Is that what you do?
