High chair

Hi everyone,

I need more advice from this board. I just read the BLW book in preparation for introducing solids. My baby will be 6 months old June 4th. Anyway, I know that according to the book you can begin solids by having the baby sit on your lap at the table, but I'd also like to have a high chair ready to go. I would love to hear your recommendations for high chairs. So, what high chair do you have and do you like it? Keep in mind we have a small space. I want something easy to clean too. Also, do any of you have the Fisher Price Space Saver chair? Is it true that it doesn't adjust completely vertically? I want something vertical for BLW, right? TIA!

Re: High chair

  • The cheap one from IKEA is easy to hose down. That's my top priority for BLW. We have some random one, and it works well without the seat cover. Why do they come "upholstered", I'll never know.
  • We have the Fisher Price Healthy Care Deluxe booster seat. No frills. No fabric or padding. Super easy to clean. Works well with or without tray.

    That's a strong contender! Thanks!

  • We also used and loved the cheap one from IKEA.

  • We have the space saver and love it.  It does go completely vertical, but I also liked that it reclined back  (which is probably not as much of an issue for you).  We did BLW, but started having him sit with us at meals he was awake for around 4 months. At that time, he was more reclined, and it got him used to the idea of meal times/the social part of eating. We adjusted his seat to vertical when we started giving him food during meals.

We like the space saver because it doesn't take up any additional room, can travel easily, and wipes down like a breeze.  I also like that I can throw all the straps and fabric (before we converted it to a booster) into the wash for a really good, hearty clean.

  • I did tons of high chair research before we started BLW. My top two choices came down to the Antilop Ikea chair and the Stokke Tripp Trapp. Both chairs bring the baby up to the table to eat with the family and both are small in size.

We ended up with the Tripp Trapp because it can adjust as the child grows and it the style and color go with our table. We LOVE it. It was expensive but IMO totally worth it. You don't even notice there is a high chair at our table and we can easily move it outside when we eat on the patio. Our daughter loves it too.

Keekaroo Height Right High Chair is very similar to the Stokke Tripp Trapp, but much less expensive. The only difference I could come up with is that Stokke offers a wider range of colors, but I was going with a dark wood finish anyway. OP, they are both on Amazon, so check them both out if you're interested.

Thanks everyone for your input! We decided to buy the FP Healthy Care Deluxe Booster Seat. I loved that it's under 30 bucks, saves space, and can be wiped down easily. Your suggestions were great though!

This. We actually bought the Ikea chair first and used it for awhile but I didn't like that it didn't have a foot rest. I LOVE our Tripp Trapp and DD likes it too. I'm trying to convince DH that we should buy a second one for baby 2, but he think DD can just transition to a regular chair/booster. I just think the Tripp Trapp is so much more comfortable (and cool looking ha). We've also had adults sit in it when we've had parties.

Hehe, I love this! I'm already working on convincing DH that we will need a second for baby 2 and I'm not even pregnant yet... Or ttc.
