DS was a great meat eater until about 4 months ago. He was already a picky eater, but I was getting in all of the food groups and growing just fine, so I wasn't worried, and neither was the pediatrician.
Now, he won't eat meat, and I'm having a hard time getting any other protein in him. Argh! Any tips?
Re: Stopped eating Meat!
Nuts (and nut butters - like almond and peanut), seeds (and seed butters - like tahini and sunflower seed). Beans. Lentils. Cheese. Yogurt. Oat bran (cooked like oatmeal).
What about fish? (My daughter loves grilled salmon.)
Will he eat any meat? Chicken nuggets, hot dogs, or any other kid friendly foods?
My son stopped eating meat around his 2nd birthday but he will still eat chicken nuggets, hot dogs, and fish sticks. So I've just found ways to make those foods healthier. I make oven baked chicken strips, serve Hebew National all beef hot dogs, and buy Trader Joe's "fish nuggets", which are battered fillets of whole cod (not minced). He doesn't get those things every day, but it's nice to know I have something to fall back on.
Other than that, I just continue to serve it with every dinner and find other sources of protein the rest of the day. He eats black beans with corn chips, cheese, and avacado, grilled cheese, mac and cheese, peanut butter, and hummus for lunch, and eggs or chicken sausage with breakfast. He'll also eat if it's if part of a sauce or soup, in spaghetti, chili, or chicken taco soup.
Sometimes my son gets in a rut but if I change it up a little, he will like something new...
