Stopped eating Meat!

DS was a great meat eater until about 4 months ago.  He was already a picky eater, but I was getting in all of the food groups and growing just fine, so I wasn't worried, and neither was the pediatrician.

Now, he won't eat meat, and I'm having a hard time getting any other protein in him.  Argh!  Any tips?

  • My 2 year old is less than enthusiastic about meat, but he really likes tofu, peanut butter, beans, Greek yogurt, and cheese. When we can get him to eat meat we have more luck with fish and sausage than anything else. He had a few bites of pulled pork tonight tooI think maybe it's a texture thing.

  • Nuts (and nut butters - like almond and peanut), seeds (and seed butters - like tahini and sunflower seed).  Beans.  Lentils.  Cheese.  Yogurt.  Oat bran (cooked like oatmeal).

What about fish?  (My daughter loves grilled salmon.)

  • Will he eat any meat? Chicken nuggets, hot dogs, or any other kid friendly foods?

My son stopped eating meat around his 2nd birthday but he will still eat chicken nuggets, hot dogs, and fish sticks. So I've just found ways to make those foods healthier. I make oven baked chicken strips, serve Hebew National all beef hot dogs, and buy Trader Joe's "fish nuggets", which are battered fillets of whole cod (not minced). He doesn't get those things every day, but it's nice to know I have something to fall back on.

Other than that, I just continue to serve it with every dinner and find other sources of protein the rest of the day. He eats black beans with corn chips, cheese, and avacado, grilled cheese, mac and cheese, peanut butter, and hummus for lunch, and eggs or chicken sausage with breakfast. He'll also eat if it's if part of a sauce or soup, in spaghetti, chili, or chicken taco soup.

  • Emma is also a picky eater, however, she will eat chicken nuggets and meatballs. The best you can do is keep trying. It's frustrating as hell, but keep trying. We went through 6 weeks of eating nothing but goldfish and cheerios and she just stopped one day and ate. Some days are more challenging than others, but these kids are strange little beings, lol

  • DD isn't a huge meat eater either.  She does love tofu, cheese, edamame, and eggs.  She will eat meat if it's really chopped up and hidden in other stuff - like spaghetti sauce, or if I mix it up with her rice and veggies.

Try different types of meat... Chicken, pork, beef, fish, bison... Try different forms... Ground, grilled steaks, breasts, filets, lunchmeat... Different spices or sauces.

Sometimes my son gets in a rut but if I change it up a little, he will like something new...
