Two Under 2

Tips for those of us heading your direction

My son is 14 months and I am currently 13 weeks pregnant. I am starting to think about the things I can teach my son now to make life a little easier when I am super pregnant and when number 2 is here. Any tips?! Things you wish you had worked on with your first?

  • I'm about 5 weeks away from my 2u2 (DD will be 18 months when LO2 arrives). Our ''original'' list of things we wanted DD to know/do before baby included:

    - Feeding herself (FI keeps giving in and spoon feeding her when she is either lazy or in efforts to avoid having to clean up her spills)

    - Potty Trained (she's neither interested nor ready for that)

    - Able to play independently

    - Able to nap when it's nap time (this one is very hit and miss)

    - Finish or near-finished teething (we have 7 teeth... long ways to go)

"What are you having?" "Well the radiologist says its a healthy little human baby. I'm a little disappointed, because I really wanted a puppy." LOL

One of the biggest things that has helped me, is having LO be able to walk and know to hold your hand.

I was very very bad about just carrying DS1 in stores because its easier and faster.

It really helps when you have a carrier to deal with, to have the older one be able to walk.

Glad to hear this as this is the main thing we have been working on, DS started walking at 15 months, and now unless it is a long way he walks everywhere, it was hard at first as he was so slow and cautious, but he is getting faster, and much more confident with steps, and I think he will be a great walker by the time DS #2 is here, although I plan to get the backpack restraint for him just for my piece of mind when he is walking next to the stroller.

Diagnosed with Anti little c antibodies. DS1 7.11.11 - Anaemia and Jaundice. 10 days in the NICU, 1 exchange transfusion and 4 blood transfusions. DS2 29.8.13 - Anaemia 7 days in the NICU and 1 exchange transfusion. Both are now happy and healthy.

  • The two non negotiables for me are holding a hand and walking, and learning the word wait. Hope it works!
  • Very helpful. Thanks. We are working on sleeping and walking independently now and probably will be for awhile! We are also working on walking up and down stairs while holding on or holding hands. There are two sets of steps to get into our house so I can see him needing to be able to do that with some help instead of us carrying him every time!
