August 2011 Moms

Had our yearly meeting.

At the end of the school year I have a meeting with the staff that works with Dom. All in all I'm hopefull. He's made some tremendous strides socially.

Improvements:

He is starting to make eye contact.

He actually answers a question.

He's participating in class.

Has a small group of friends and socializes and jokes with them at lunch.

He wasn't being bullied, but there was one kid who's an in your face obnoxious kid, who got a little too pushy for Dom's taste and TWICE Dom had let him know enough was enough. Basically put him in his place.

Things to work on:

Still reading at a second grade level.

Has a hard time understanding what he's reading.

He will have an aid with him next year again.

They don't see him being mainstreamed at all in Jr. High.

Either way, he's made great progress and I feel amazing. They did note that they were surprised how well he adjusted based on the info they received from elementary school. The staff talks very highly of him and find it cute that every year someone mentions how cute he is and what beautiful eyes he has. So proud of him. I'm just started tearing up. Gah, I'm a wuss.

Awwww, this is great news! I'm so happy he's made such great improvements, especially in the social areas. Is he working with a tutor for the reading?nbsp; I can see someone setting up a summer reading programor does your library already have one? Does pizza hut still do bookit for personal pan pizzas? I hope I'm not overstepping, but the educator in me comes out once in a while.
We are going to pay for a private tutor in fall. The staff did say things were going to get harder, of course, and he'll have much more homework. So, Dh and I agreed to a tutor.
