At the end of the school year I have a meeting with the staff that works with Dom. All in all I'm hopefull. He's made some tremendous strides socially.
Improvements:
He is starting to make eye contact.
He actually answers a question.
He's participating in class.
Has a small group of friends and socializes and jokes with them at lunch.
He wasn't being bullied, but there was one kid who's an in your face obnoxious kid, who got a little too pushy for Dom's taste and TWICE Dom had let him know enough was enough. Basically put him in his place.
Things to work on:
Still reading at a second grade level.
Has a hard time understanding what he's reading.
He will have an aid with him next year again.
They don't see him being mainstreamed at all in Jr. High.
Either way, he's made great progress and I feel amazing. They did note that they were surprised how well he adjusted based on the info they received from elementary school. The staff talks very highly of him and find it cute that every year someone mentions how cute he is and what beautiful eyes he has. So proud of him. I'm just started tearing up. Gah, I'm a wuss.
Re: Had our yearly meeting.
Hey, what happened to my reply?
Anyway, way to go, Dom! Glad to hear he has made so many positive improvements this year
Hooray for progress! Middle school is awkward enough, so good for him for making such good progress!
Manana, I didn't even think of the college thing. Thanks for the tip!
