Baby Carrier?

Hi Ladies,

I pet sit/dog walk for a living so finding a good baby carrier is going to be really important for me (I will be taking LO with me a lot). I have scoliosis and have minor back pain because of it, so I need something that will distribute the weight. I would also prefer something that will last me a while and not just the newborn stage.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Also, any lightweight strollers that you love?

Ergo will last a long time, but I wasn't a fan when DD was a newborn.  I'm getting a Baby K'tan this time for the first few months.

As for stroller?  If you want a carseat to snap in try the chicco liteway (with chicco keyfit) If you want to use it when LO is little then look for one that will recline flat.

  • I suggest looking into the ergo, boba and becco Geminis . I already have a Moby wrap and love it but find it doesn't work as well after the kid reaches a certain weight its not as comfy so after my daughter gets to be about a month old in going to go to stores and try out the listed carriers above to see what fits best .
  • I have a Moby wrap, Infantino Mei Tai and a Boba.  At first DD didn't like the Boba (easiest to use by far).  She was okay with the moby but it's a PITA.  I love the mei tai, it's the lightest weight of the three I have.  The straps take a little getting used to, but I figured them out within 1-2 uses.  DD would scream at the Boba, but liked the mei tai just fine.  Now that she's a little bigger she's happy in the Boba.  Both the Boba and mei tai are comfy for me and distribute the weight well.  Do you have a store or group locally where you can try out carriers?

  • Thanks ladies! Would BRU have samples that I can try on?

  • Check out the boba, it can be used without an infant insert for small babies.

Of the brands mentioned above, BRU only sells the Ergo, I think. They mostly have Bjorns and other "crotch danglers." They definitely don't sell the Boba or Beco. And I don't believe they let you try them on.

They also have the infantino mei tai (that's where I got mine).  But I believe RedheadBaker is right that you can't try them on.  Unless you live in a super small town, I would try googling your city + babywearing.  When I searched seattle babywearing I got lots of hits.

false. I live in a huge city with 5 BRU's and the carrier section had all of them as samples just sitting on a shelf to try on.

I have a Happy wrap (similar to a Moby but lighter material) and a Beco Gemini. The Gemini is great with weight distribution and I was able to use it within the first month with DS.

  • I love the ERGO.  My daughter is now over 20 pounds and there is no strain on my back to carry her in the ERGO.  I've completed several hikes and I hardly notice that I'm lugging around the extra weight.  I recently wrote an article and highly endorsed the ERGO for this reason and a few others.  Check it out!
