What's the rule of thumb for transitioning off the bottle? A year? We're skipping traditional sippy cups and she has been learning to drink from the ones with a straw.

Not really sure what you mean by transitioning off the bottle? If she has been learning to drink from a straw and is doing well with it, then that sounds fine to me. You don't have to stop using bottles yet though, most babies keep drinking from bottles until they're completely weaned to all solid foods around a year old.

My son never really liked the bottle. We starting using a cup at about 4 months because that is all he would drink out of. My pedi said go with what works. Good luck!
I tried giving DD a sippy cup the other night & she wasn't overly interested in it and had a difficult time figuring it out. I figure I'll take it in steps.

Thanks for the replies. I guess I was really wanting to know about what age should kids no longer be on the bottle but using some type of cup all the time. A year is what I was thinking to be done with the bottle.

I've read so many different answers to this question on here but my pedi told us at DS's 1 year appointment to start transitioning off bottles sooner rather than later. Most kids should be OFF bottles around a year old or by 15-18 months at the latest.
DS was done with bottles about a week after he turned 1. We didn't want to drag our feet on this but luckily he didn't seem to really care. He's all sippy cup now.
This is what our pedi recommends. Using bottles too long can be damaging to their teeth. I can't stand when I see kids in public who are clearly way older than 1 drinking out of a bottle.
We were pretty much totally done with bottles when DS turned a year old. I think the earlier you get rid of it the easier it is. He took to sippy cups pretty young and we had no problem getting him off the bottle.
