Cloth diapering

Hi AP mamas!
I want to use cloth diapers with bebe 4. I don't know where to start there are so many styles and folds its so much to digest. Also when your out somewhere and have a poopy to change and your not using the disposable inserts, how does one clean or store the nasties? So much to learn

Re: Cloth diapering

  • I'd start with the cloth diaper board. They have an FAQ in the upper right of the board.

I keep dirty diapers in a zippered wet bag when on the go (and at daycare) and deal with things at home.

Ditto PP on all accounts.  Also look up Cloth Diapering 101 by jaimie Gleisman or something like that.  It's 7 pts and great.  Obbsandlala has some great videos too.

  • Ditto pp. Also Green Mountain Diapers has a New to Cloth page that's very informative.

  • We use bumgenius brand. It's an "all in one" meaning the stuffing is sewn in. We really like it because it's easy (no stuffing) and has snaps (and c'mon they are adorable). I would like to get some others that I can stuff to change up the versatility but he's only 3 months right now. When we are out I just put the diaper in a ziploc or sometimes a plastic grocery bag and then clean it when I get home. At home I just use a small plastic Sterilite container with a snap on lid. We have 12 diapers and I do a load everyday (we probably will buy 6 more eventually). I wash them as was instructed when I bought them, rinse cold, wash warm with an extra rise. And then tumble dry low. I will usually partially hang dry them because they take forever to dry in the dryer. Also the best advice I have is the ones that get stained is let them dry in the sun, it makes them completely white again, AMAZING! Don't forget the cloth wipes as well!
