Baby Names

Too much 'L'?

Our last name is (similar to) Luckie.
Are Lionel, Leland, Lachlan, or Leolin Luckie too 'L' intensive?

What about Leo Luckie? Or Leander Luckie? (a bit less 'L' intensive).

It's not that we're trying to choose an 'L' first name, these are just names we like that happen to be 'L' names. I'm reflecting of whether they need to be cut from our possibility list or not.

Thanks for your input.

Re: Too much 'L'?

  • I think the double L in Lionel, Lachlan etc is a bit too much for me. I think Leander Luckie could work, though. An L name with a different syllable pattern sounds best to me- LEo LUCKie are both two syllables with the first syllable stressed, so it is a bit rhymey for my taste, but LeANDer LUCKie mixes it up a bit and sounds better to my ear.

  • I don't normally mind alliteration, but with L's it just sounds comical. I'd say no to an L name in this case.

Honestly I find those L names to be on the extreme end of L names.  (Being they already have more than one L)  Something like Larry or Leo  Luckie, eh might not both me as much. Those with it, yes it's very cartoon charactery for me.

    agreed.

the double "Ls" make most of your name choices too much.

    leo isn't so bad.

  • Definitely too much L

Leo Luckie is a little too much for me but not bad as a nn. The double L in Leopold Luckie doesn't bother me. Or Leon Luckie since it isn't a double vowel ending.

  • I think a 2-3 syllable name with only one L could work.
  • I'm in the same boat. Last name starts with L and I feel like every L first name sounds weird. I think we should just focus on any other letter of the alphabet :
  • I'm not a fan of alliteration at all, and we will be avoiding this when we name our kdis someday.

With that said, I think the names with just one L aren't as bad as the names with 2. I also think duplicating the L--CK sounds in both first and last is just too much.
