Babies: 3 - 6 Months

crib transition

So LO is 14 weeks.  She currently sleeps in her RnP and sleeps from 7-6 with a wake up feed at 5am, so needlas to say, shes a great night time sleeper. It wasn't always this easy so I am dreading the crib transition.  Shes definitely getting too big for her RnP and in the morning I find her all scrunched at the bottom which I hate, so I know I have to move her....but HOW?? She's such a bad napper, 25 mins tops and every once in a while I try the crib for naps, and this week ive done the crib for all naps and of course theyre still crappy.  I also put her in it whenever I get the chance to just hang out.  The past couple of nights Ive started her in it and she'll either last 40mins tops or wake up immediately when I place her in it (yes I rock her to sleep).  What should I do?? Just plop her in and don't give in and every time she gets up continuously put her back in..aahhh I don't know what to do?!

Re: crib transition

  • Well, I haven't done the transition yet so we're still in the RNP, but I think you just suck up a few really bad nights of sleep and stay consistent. I haven't tried yet since it never feels like the night I want to not sleep...

  • DS slept in his RNP from birth until 4 months.  In fact, it was the only thing he slept in well.  He slept great in it but by 4 months, he was just too big for it (even though he's a little guy) and would constantly try to flip over.  At that point, none of us were sleeping well.  We knew we were delaying the inevitable so we sucked it up and transitioned sleeping in the crib in his own room.  (The RNP was next to our bed)  We did a modify cry-it-out.  The first couple nights were rough but overall not horrible.  DS sleeps exclusively in his crib since transitioning and is doing well minus a quick night feeding or two.  Good luck!!

  • When we transitioned, we did the crib for the first half of the night---then fed him and then put him back in the RNP for the rest of the night. That way everyone still got some decent sleep. Eventually, we just started putting him in the crib full time and he was already used to it so it wasn't too hard.
