Not rolling over at 6 months

Anyone else? DD can sit up unassisted, say "mama" and almost roll over, but she's still not doing it. Her 6 month check up is tomorrow so I will ask about it then. I'm getting worried

Re: Not rolling over at 6 months

  • I don't think DS rolled completely over until around or just before 6 months. On a different note, he's still not sitting entirely unassisted and he's almost 8 months old, so it sounds like your LO is doing just fine.

O is 7 months and just started really rolling last week. He's been able to sit for a while now, but just finally mastered the roll.
So no worries, your kid is not behind.

  • I wouldn't worry about it too much. My son has rolled over now a few times at 7 months old. At his 6 month appt, the dr wasn't concerned about it because she said he had good muscle tone when he held his head up while laying on his belly. He has also been sitting unassisted since 6 months. I totally understand your concern...my daughter rolled over the day she turned 3 months (which I know is pretty early), but you can't compare babies...they're all different! :)

thanks! I'm curious to see what the doctor says about muscle tone since her cousin has low muscle tone. It does sound, however, like this is all perfectly normal

  • I wouldn't worry. Babies do it when they're ready. My DS can roll but hasn't got the hang of sitting unassisted yet.

  • My DS didn't roll front to back until 7 months and just yesterday on his 9 month birthday rolled back to front.  He just didn't have any interest before. I wouldnt worry about it.  All babies are different.
  • My lil one isn't rolling over actively but she does sit up unassisted and babbles A LOT.  We had our 6 mo checkup and our ped isn't concerned about her rolling over since she is sitting on her own now.

  • My LO is just over 7 months and still not really rolling over. Talked to our pedi at his 6 month appt, and he told me not to worry about it for now, but if he still isn't rolling by his 9 month appt he'll put me in touch with someone to work on it. In the meantime just try to motivate him to roll by using a toy or whatever. But I wouldn't worry yet :)

  • Another almost 7 monther not rolling. She has been able to pull herself to standing unassisted since a week before six months. All babies are different.
