Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Ferber Method

My little guy just turned 6 months old today, and I just bought Dr. Ferber's book "Solve Your Child's Sleep Problems."  I'm just curious who has used this method and what were your experiences with it.  I want the good and the bad! :)  Thanks in advance for giving me your input!

We did it at about 6-7 months w DS. He would only fall asleep in his carseat.

The checks never worked and I ended up letting him CIO for nearly an hour. It was by far the hardest thing we've done, but the night after he cried for 20 min and then never fussed more than a minute or two after that. It's not for everyone. He still woke once for a bottle until about 9 months. But I could put him right down to sleep instead of rocking him and he wasn't waking 2-3 times.

  • We did it for overnight sleeping with DS #1 and #2 around 6 months.  It worked well for us.  I referred to the book a lot because there are sooo many variables and different scenarios that you could encounter.

  • Thanks ladies for your input!  We started last night, he didn't cry at all last night, fell sleep within 20 minutes or so, woke about 4 am and chatted to himself a few minutes before falling back to sleep until 7:15am!  This morning, we put on the sleep sack, read a book while rocking a bit, laid him down, he fussed for about 15 minutes or so and fell asleep!  I can only hope that this continues!
  • We did CIO with DD at 6 months and it worked like a charm! 4 nights and she was sleeping 7-7. The first night I made my husband do the sleep training cause I couldnt bare to do it. This time around with DS we started at 4.5 months (pediatrician said it was ok)... He takes a good nap in the morning and afternoon now and sleeps through the night 7-6am... There are some nights where he wakes up but he is teething at the same time.
