Help-Worried about LO

My almost 13 month old started running a mild fever three days ago. It happened very seddenly, he was playing happily just couple of hours before. He did not have any other symptoms. Then he started totally refusing any type of solids. Last night I discovered he has 3 molars coming in. I thoght that was what was going on. I called his doctor this morning and he says its most likely a virus, but now I discovered some blisters on his tongue and Im totally concerned that its more than a virus. Or could they maybe be caused by the fever?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Help-Worried about LO

  • No, the blisters are most likely a symptom of the virus. Like hand, foot, and mouth. Call your pediatrician and advise them of the newest symptom.

While I was reading it, I was thinking molars. Then you said there were molars. So I thought it was probably it.

The blisters would have me making another call though just to be sure.

I hope it's just the teeth and it all clears up. Poor lo.

  • We had hand, foot and mouth a few weeks ago and this is exactly what it was like.  They didn't treat it - just let it run it's course.

     Good luck!

  • I agree with Hand, Foot, and Mouth.  LO had it about 6 months ago.  Started with fever and then sores in her throat.  She never got them anywhere else.  The second day was the worst for her.  I think she was super uncomfortable with the mouth blisters.  Not to scare you, but from what I understand, it is MISERABLE for adults.  We did not get it and she slept in our bed the first night.

  • Couldn't the blisters be possibly from teething?  Their saliva gets pretty acidy?

  • I have never heard of Hand Food and Mouth before so it is always good to have new, helpful information.

I hope LO is doing better or does so after seeing his doctor (:

  • Sounds like HFM. A had it last June and it was terrible. Started with a mild fever and no appetite, then he had horrible diaper rash and blisters all over his body, but concentrated on his hands, feet, and inside the mouth. Keep an eye out for dehydration - my kiddo didn't eat or drink anything for a week and ended up in the hospital with dehydration.

  • My DD had an identical sounding virus that was NOT Hand Foot and Mouth. She started feeling better after a few days.
