citronella poisoning... did you know about this? And question

https://megandmartinmen.blogspot.ca/2012/03/p-s-citronella-oil-kids.html?m=1

This is just a story about citronella poisoning. It the comments, there are shorter, similar stories with other oils. Not that I was going to pour some oil into my 3 year old's sippy cup, but I've never heard of this before. Thankfully, we don't use citronella oil for tiki torches or whatever else, BUT.... we recently bought the California Baby bug repellant, and one of the ingredients is citronella. Granted, I know that we aren't going to be spraying it in our kid's faces, but if it's poisonous to aspirate, couldn't they possibly breath that in if it's on their skin like that?

Wondering if I should take it back....

I was discussing this with my friend the other day. She's a PICU nurse and Im an RT. citronella is EPA approved topical use, so just spraying it on the skin is fine, small amounts inhaled are ok. It's the pure citronella oil that is more concentrated, that when this kid inhaled it, it coated his lungs.
