Pregnant after 35

non-stress testing

I am 31 weeks today and I had my doctors appointment today. The doctor told me I need to start going in for non-stress testing once a week beginning next week. I have heard of older women going in for the non-stress testing to be sure everything is ok. I was thinking they went in once maybe twice, but once a week seems a bit extreme to me. I am not having any issues with this pregnancy, I am just wondering if anyone else or knows anyone else that has done stress testing this often.

I am not worried about it. It sounds pretty simple, hooking me up to a monitor and monitoring the baby for 30-45 minutes. I will definitely say she is one active little girl!!

Re: non-stress testing

  • Well atleast you get to hear babies heartbeat. Im a nursery nurse and did some ld. Not sure why you would get them with no issues? I did not have any at 38 years old and i saw a high risk ob. Is baby small??

  • Baby is measuring right on. Doctor did say he is doing it because I am Advanced Maternal Age (I am 39).

  • I started going  once a week around 34 weeks, it was manageable in the beginning but then I got bumped to twice a week at 36 weeks. It's definately a drag now, but I feel like if my Dr thinks it's best then I won't argue it. She has all her AMA patients start them in the third trimester, I haven't had any issues at all she's just very conservative, sounds like your Dr. is too. Once a week really wasn't that bad to deal with especially when the baby cooperated, the appts were pretty quick.

  • I go twice a week, started a couple of weeks ago. I also have issues other than being ama. With my last baby they were able to detect a lower heart rate and the start of pre-e.

  • Thank You ladies for the information. I was expecting to have a non-stress test (because of my age), but didn't expect having to go once a week. I am happy that will will monitor and could catch anything that doesn't seem right. I am a SAHM so getting monitored every week won't interfere with anything (even twice a week wouldn't).
